Hey there,
I am trying to find the the Wi-Fi phone in a retail store to purchase this weekend, to add a second line in the event they cannot sign up new customers after Tuesday.
Anyone know who might carry it? I called Vonage and was told all the usual stores: Radio Shack, Circuit City, Best Buy, etc. carry it, but I've gone to them all and they only have the V Phone and telephone adapters. |

Correct, the wifi phone is only available from Vonage directly. I am not sure that the ruling would bar new lines from being added on existing accounts, but if you are that worried about it, you can always pick up a v-phone at a retail store and add that to hold a line for you. Also, if you really want a wifi phone for your 2nd line, just add it. If the order is placed before the ruling I can't see them stopping it, even if the device has yet to ship. |

This is correct - the Vonage branded UTStarcom WiFI phone is only available directly from Vonage. They never put it into retail stores.
One option that you have is to get an unlocked/generic WiFi phone from Voip Supply or someplace else and then use a Vonage soft phone account on it (different number). The soft phone account would let you use the F1000G or F3000 (color display/clamshell type phone) as opposed to just the original F1000. You could also use the PC soft phone (no V-Stick, just software on the PC), which may be more convenient and may also work better than the V-Stick itself. |

I have a soft phone account and it asks how you want to use it. I chose to use a usb phone, maybe wi-fi could be there also. |

With a soft phone account, you get all the SIP details (servers, user name, and password) that you need to configure pretty much "any" SIP compatible device. If you put those details into the phone - it works fine - same as a terminal adapter but without the wires or the need for a PC that you'd get with a USB phone.
The details of how to configure (assuming that you have a user name and password) are posted in this forum as well as in the UTStarcom WiFi phone forum. |
