When you consider only a tiny fraction of the infrastructure between your handset and the handset of the person you are talking to is directly under Vonage's control, that you can talk to each other in real time is only a tiny bit short of amazing. Problems for some--insurmountable for a few--are to be expected. Let's face it, Voip is on the bleeding edge of technology. I think Vonage has carried its banner reasonably well.
On a scale of one to ten with ten being certain, the likelihood Vonage will "go dark" one day is extremely unlikely, maybe 0.1 on that scale. They've got too many customers dependent upon them and, no matter what their hard assets may be, that many customers makes Vonage a meaningful target for a number of investors.
I figure when I went to Voip I was sacrificing a degree of certainty for saving money. When I look at long distance alone I figure I've already saved more than $700 in the last twelve months. Have I had some service interruptions? Yes! Have I had to hang up and redial a few times because of a bad connection? Yes! I have I had to pause a Azureus connection so I could hear a caller? Yes! I have saved $700. You betcha!
I intend to stay with Vonage and save my heard-earned money. I intend to put up with a few annoyances. It's a reasonable tradeoff.
BTW, I also use my Vonage account for business. Everyone I know also has my cell phone number and know if they can't reach me for whatever reason, they should call that number.
Oh yeah. My cell phone is AT&T/Cingular. There's no way I will support Verizon as they set about to stunt technological innovation as a way of regaining customers they've lost for whatever reason. And, think about this: If they end up crushing Vonage, do you think the other Voip providers will be left alone to gnaw away at the POTS customer base? |

Vonage got a permanent stay just to let you know. So the likelihood Vonage would go "bye bye" is for now zero.
To those who love Vonage this is a good news to those who hate Vonage have a great week.

Well I made a switch today. I will miss this forum but I needed a company focused on new features and not legal issues. I still cannot believe that Vonage doesn't have ACR. |

That is a sad news Keith but what's important is you are satisfied with your phone service. If you believe Vonage didn't do a great job for you then maybe it wasn't meant for you. I wish you the best. Hope you'd still share your knowledge and assistance to those who would need your inputs should you have time to visit here in the forum.
I'm always busy but still try as much to check out what's the latest here if I've time.
