After that i went into port forwarding and enabled DMZ. This Helped!!! Only thing is when i try to call someone when this is enabled it doesnt ring. I can only recieve calls..Anyone know what to do?? My Results

Was Azureus running while you ran the speed test? Is your VT2142 connected directly to your cable modem? If so, turning off the firewall, enabling DMZ, etc. won't help with your Vonage service. Try disabling Azureus to see if things improve. If they don't, you might want to contact your cable provider and have them check the line.

Azureus causes interference for one of two reasons:

- Port use

In this case, you may have chosen a port between 10,000 and 20,000 for Azureus. Not a great idea, since Vonage uses those ports for RTP. I'd choose something in the 30,000-40,000 range for Azureus.

Also a possible impact is the sheer NUMBER of ports BitTorrent likes to open and keep open (even after it is done using them). Try lowering your global connection max to something around 100, and your number of simultaneous outbound connection attempts to something around 5-10.

- Bandwidth overuse

Try throttling Azureus down to something well below your known upload bandwidth for its "Maximum Upload" setting, and something well below your known download bandwidth for its "Maximum Download".

Vonage-supplied routers/passthrough devices don't tend to be the most robust of routers, so you may simply be overloading it. If the steps above don't help, you may need to get a more robust router and convert your VT2142 to a Vonage device only (have it and your computer(s) be peers on a router that runs your network).

Adjusting the settings doesn't help.
We have a 2mb connection. Would this be overloading the router?
The DMZ settings helped a little. But downloads are not going as fast as they should. And Vonage doesnt work when we adjust the DMZ.

DMZ is overkill. You would be better off forwarding the specific ports you need. www.portforward.com can explain what is going on, and Vonage.com has the instruction manual for the VT2142 online. I've never used a VT2142, so I can't give you step-by-step on it.

Basically, though, in Azureus you pick a port to accept connections on. You now need to tell the VT2142 to forward all connections on that port to the machine Azureus is running on.

But, yes, you may be simply overloading the VT2142. Vonage gear does not usually include really powerful routers (and even a passthrough port is really a one-port router). You're probably better off picking up a more powerful router.

My favorite is the WRT54GL by Linksys, and an aftermarket firmware called "Tomato". However, "Tomato" is compatible with a few Buffalo routers that are a good bit less expensive than the WRT54GL.
