Until now I hadn't seen any signs of even DL PowerBoost. I didn't think it was in the Detroit market. I've got this here new wrt54gL but I didn't think that would give me multiples of upload bandwidth.
Thanx Darrell. |

I've had the download Powerboost for about 6 months now and I received the upload Powerboost a couple of days ago. I'm originally on the 8Mbps down /768 up service but I've seen my download speeds burst up to 27000+ kbps and my upload speeds burst up to 2500+ kbps.
According to the Comcast help - FAQ "A PowerBoost burst will normally last as long as 10MB of a file download on Comcast's 6Mbps High-Speed Internet service, and as long as 20MB of a file download on Comcast's 8Mbps High-Speed Internet service. Once the PowerBoost burst is complete, your download will continue at your normal provisioned speed of up to 6Mbps or 8Mbps." I'm assuming this also applies to the upload Powerboost burst as for how long the burst last. |

1. NJ 2. Comcast, Cable 3. Terayon TJ615 > Motorola VT2542 > PC
Download 4,832,704 bps Upload 360,264 bps QOS 98% RTT 21 ms MaxPause 22 ms
Why am I not getting PowerBoost at all? How can you tell what plan you're on? |

Have you rebooted your network? Rebooting your network is required to get the "Powerboost" burst. First unplug the power adapter from your cable modem then unplug the power adapter of the Motorola VT2542. Wait a couple of minutes and then power-up the cable modem, wait for all lights to become operational again before you power-up the Motorola VT2542.
One way you can tell which speed tier you have is by how much you pay for internet service. In my area, the 6Mbps down / 375 up service is $42.95/month and the 8Mbps down / 768 up service is $52.95/month. If the prices do not correlate to the area you're from, you can always just contact Comcast Customer Service and ask which plan you have. |

Well, I found the problem.
Apparently Comcast never upgraded my modem to DOCSIS 1.1, and I'm at DOCSIS 1.0.
Although my Voip works fine, for whatever reason, my modem can only process about 4.7 down and 368k up. Comcast tech said that I should be on the 6 down / 768k up and it's at no cost that I would get the extra upload speed.

If you want to take advantage of the new Powerboost burst speed that Comcast is providing, you will need to purchase a new cable modem or rent a new one from Comcast. I use the Motorola SB5120 and it works great for my setup but I don't think they no longer produce the SB5120...It was replaced by the SB5101. Another choice you may also want to consider is the Linksys BEFCUM10 cable modem. |

They updated me remotely via firmware, so I'm faster now.
I'm renting the modem for 3.00 / mo rather than buying one, as I have a habit of knocking sodas onto them |
