Yes, my friend got a VTech only to discover after it was too late that they use 2.4GHz to send, which means people can't hear him. He says the 5.8GHz sounds awesome though...he can hear everyone going "hello...hello...are you there?" as clear as a bell.

I purchased the Uniden TRU8860 phone with an extra handset (it apparently supports up to ten handsets) and it works flawlessly with Vonage service. This phone is replacing my aging Siemens Gigaset which was always flaky, had issues with my wireless network, and awful battery life.

Caller ID and CIDCW - Both work flawlessly
Voicemail light - works flawlessly on both phones

Other features that are extremely useful:
-Clarity and volume are excellent, doesn't get "ticking" noises from my wireless LAN.
-Handsets each have speakerphone which is exceptionally clear.
-Bright orange display and keypad backlight.
-Decent battery life, and uses a NiMH pack unlike some of the cheaper phones that are still using NiCd.
-Supports intercom between individual handsets, even WITHOUT the base station in range. Kind of a cheesy 2-way radio feature, if you will.
-Seems pretty durable. Doesn't squeak or flex when squeezed.
-Ringers are numerous and pleasant. A few polyphonic holiday songs if you're into that sort of thing.
-The base station itself isn't much bigger than the extra handset's charging base.
-Allows direct entry into phonebook from caller ID.
-Handsets can be named, this shows up on the screen (like the Siemens).
-Headset port.

One big flaw, however:
Time doesn't appear to be set from the CID info, you've gotta set it yourself.

So far this phone's been great. If it starts to suck, I'll update the post.

Yep, I've had that phone for a while. One feature not listed in the manual, if you need to add a "1" to the beginning of a phone number (you don't with Vonage, but if you want it there anyway) on caller ID, press the * key- it adds the "1" to the beginning of the number instead of the end.

I have the TRU8885-2 Uniden, how do I program it to indicate with the message light that I have new voicemail at Vonage? I thought the light flashed only if you had new messages on the base answering machine?

Thanks,
Jen

Jennehere,

My TRU8885-2 worked for the Vonage voicemaiil light straight out of the box as did my desktop Polycom SoundPoint Pro. What did not seem to work on the 5.8gHz Uniden was the Caller ID functions but these do work on my Polycom. Anybody else have this problem with the model?

Are you positive it's the TRU8885? I have the same system and have read through all the manuals and forum posts I can find and everything seems to indicate that since there is a built in answering machine, the message indicator light will not function with voicemail and there's no way to program it to do so.

Very confused now.

I have the 8885-2 also. Will have to see if I can get the voicemail to light up the light tomorrow- will report back here after I test it.

Please do let us know. That was the only reason I haven't purchased the 8885 yet.
