Sad I had the Uniden tru 8888, which incorporates a corded handset at the transmit base, the wireless phones worked superbly, but the corded handset had slightly annoying echoing when all other phones in the house were fine, even on the same conversation. Took it back to Frye's. Then proceeded to the Panasonic 5.8ghz system.

One question for the TRU8866 users. Does it allow you to program your CID like a cell phone? I've been looking at a few phones that do this and I think its great for ppl on Vonage (since the name/number mapping is not there). YOu can say 666-555-1111 = Mom or something.

Just curious because it looks like a great phone. I currently have an older Uniden phone (5 years) but we get the "busy" signal at the end of the messages w/the answering machine.

Thanks.

That's what I find cumbersome, actually -- having to check both the machine and the vmail. So, no one knows of a separate gizmo that can be connected somewhere in the chain to detect a waiting vmail, assuming the answering machine is turned off?

Amazon has link to the users manual.
Do a search for 8866 and you'll find it. I'd post a link, but sometimes their links include user info.

Does anyone know if the Uniden TRU8865 uses 5.8GHz in both directions?

A friend of mine told me he bought a Vtech 5.8GHz phone recently and every so often people can't hear him at all, although he can hear them crystal clear. After looking in the Vtech manual, he discovered that, although it's advertised as a 5.8GHz phone, they actually only use 5.8GHz from the base station to the phone and 2.4GHz from the phone to the base station. And the manual states that if you can hear others but they can't hear you, there may be interference in the 2.4GHz range (such as a wireless network or microwave oven).

After further research, it's apparently a common thing for some manufacturers to use both 5.8GHz and 2.4GHz that way on newer phones. And on top of that, a user today posted the same symptoms in this forum, and apparently this was his problem, too (http://www.vonage-forum.com/sutra18421.html#18421).

I downloaded the Uniden manual, but I can't find any mention of this in there. Hopefully that means the TRU8865 uses 5.8GHz in both directions. But since many folks here seem to have first-hand experience with this phone, can any of you confirm this? I'd rather know for sure before making a purchase.

I have a DCX640 2.4GHZ phone, I thought it would show the phonebook entry name when teh CID displayed, but it doesn't Sad but yet it does do distinctive ringers. figure that one out.. the only annoying thing about the distinctive ringers, is that when someone calls me, I hear the regualr phoen in teh bedroom ring, and the cordless lights up and says "incomming call" but it doesnt' start to ring till after the first ring, cuz it's looking to see what ringer it needs to use.. but not a big deal..

I received my new 8860 system the other day along with two TCX800 expansion phones. The clarity with Vonage is simply unreal. My previous system was a Uniden PowerMax 2.8 Ghz system and this new system blows it away. If your thinking about a new phone system I highly recommend the 8860. The sound quality is awesome, the message light flashes to tell when you have new mail in your Vonage inbox and there are tons of other goodies. I bought my system through Amazon.com which had the phone for a significantly lower price than other places.

I have one. It is purely 5.8GHz. I got it because the Panasonic 2.4GHz phones I had were interfering with my TiVo streaming MP3s and the VTech "WiFi Friendly" models were anything but.
