I just switched over to Vonage this week. I love it, my wife hates it. The main thing she hates is that the caller id no longer lists names, but only numbers. Also when someone tries to call in, we get no caller id. I know the phone supports it as we had it when we were with Bellsouth. Any ideas?

caller id features, caller id with name and caller id block are for outgoing calls only. that would mean if you make outgoing calls you have the option for your name to appear on their caller id or not. however for calls coming in, vonage doesnt support a feature wherein you can view their name.

I must disagree with "nicegurl". Incoming caller ID SHOULD have the name attached to it. Mine does. There have been people who've switched who's INCOMING caller ID with name doesn't work anymore, and the suggestion was to call customer service. They'd be better equipped to help you fix it.

Vonage OUTGOING caller ID usually does NOT have your name, attached to it. Though it's been known to occur in very sparse situations. Mine for instance, shows an adjoining city name, and my state with my number. (Go figure.)

a few things for the new customer....

inbound caller ID and outbound caller ID are handled completely different

INBOUND Caller ID: Vonage has no control over what is sent, what most likely is occuring is that the company that actually is holding your number (Vonage is not like verizon or bell south they do not hold numbers but use CLECS that actaully hold their numbers) does not have an agreement with your carrier to pass that type of information on caller ID. The person who is calling you has a carrier and that carrier determines what information is sent out for caller ID to different carriers that their customer calls, since the company that actually holds your number does not have an agreement for name and number, only the number is sent you can call Vonage for CS to see if everything is being sent properly from the other carrier but 9 out of 10 times what is being sent is being displayed

OUTBOUND Caller ID: All Vonage numbers are private, when you fill out your eLOA there is a section to remain with your directory listing, but when your number ports or you get a new Vonage number and you call someone else the caller ID on their phone will only show the number and that is by design...that is a business decision that they made in the beginning
