Is there anything to allow me to record telephone conversations on my Vonage line? Is traditional devices that do so inline work (i am guessing no)? I have a PAP2 Linksys....

if the "inline" device is a one that is able to be connected to an analog line inbetween the phone and a normal phone jack, then the answer is yes you can you it, once the signal leaves the Vonage device it is analog so any normal phone recording device should work

the only issue that you may run in to is voltage, which could cause issues, as well as CID and other features not to work properly if the phone signal passes through the recording device then to the phone

I am sure somebody here has attempted this with success. Any recommendations on a pretty good stealthy device and where I can get it?

When you say "Stealthy", I'll just warn you now:

The federal Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968, 18 U.S.C. Sec. 2510 et seq., prohibits the willful interception of telephone communication by means of any electronic, mechanical, or other device without an applicable exemption. There are two principal exceptions:

Federal Exceptions
Consent: In the absence of more restrictive state law, it is permissible to intercept and record a telephone conversation if one or both of the parties to the call consents. Consent means authorization by only one participant in the call; single-party consent is provided for by specific statutory exemption under federal law. 18 U.S.C. Sec. 2511(2)(d).

"Business telephone" exception
The "business telephone" exception, which generally allows monitoring of calls and taping over an extension phone which is both provided to a subscriber in the ordinary course of a telephone company's business and is being used by that subscriber in the ordinary course of its business. This provision generally permits businesses to monitor the conversations of their employees, including personal conversations.

Penalties: The federal statutes provide criminal penalties for unlawful interception of telephone conversations, including up to five years' imprisonment or a maximum of $10,000 in fines. They also allow for civil remedies, by which private parties are entitled to recover actual and punitive damages, together with fees and costs.

I don't know how 'stealthy' you are looking for, but Radio Shack sells several devices. I've owned two of them, its possible to make them unobtrusive but if somebody goes looking around their phone equipment, it's going to be pretty easy to notice that this isn't part of their regular equipment.

So are these two devices from Radio Shack? I am assuming you've used them in conjunction with Vonage, right? Because I was searching around the 'net for them and a site specifically had a FAQ regarding if ANY of their devices worked with Vonage or not and their answer was NO only traditional POTS.

BTW, I have a cordless phone setup that has a base and two handsets for the same line.

a lot of times they may not work with Vonage but the real reason that they will say NO on their sites is because they will not support it, it is a best effort type thing..if it works they are siked but if it does not then they will not be able to help you get it to work..you could get one and try it and an higher up tech guy from Vonage could make adjustments in the voltage and other things to try to help you to get it to work, but if it does not then they will tell you it is not supported either, but usually they will give it a great shot

These devices at RS are simply, smart tape recorder gender adapters. One of the goes between the handset and the base(small connector). And one goes between the base and the wall(large connector) or V box. The small connector only records calls on that phone. The large one records any calls on the line from any phone. BOTH depend on you having a tape recorder. The large one requires a tape recorder that has a remote connector for the VOX function; that way it automatically records when people are speaking; Otherwise you have stand there to press record and stop. RS sells them to. The V conversation can be recorded because after the V box to your phone it's all just analog voice.

The one I currently use is #43-228, it sits between my RTP300 and my phone, I feed one of the lines into my PC, and I use it weekly for phone interviews that I need to record. #43-1237 may be a little more like what you're looking for.
