When checking voicemail from my home phone, it seems superfluous to have to enter the PIN. After all, if a miscreant is in my home, having them listen to vmail unimpeded is the least of my problems. Vonage programmers, can we have an option to not require the PIN, like Verizon has? It could be something we can choose during voicemail configuration.

Obviously this only applies to *123, not to calling in from outside.

Or does this feature exist and I've missed it?

With relatively little effort, people with malicious motivation can make a phone call from anywhere in the world faking your phone number as the originating number and would thus then have access to your voice mail.

Relying on the originating phone number for authentication is a very poor form of authentication.

UncleDavid - I know this doesn't really answer your question, but I have my primary phone set up with a one-touch speed dial for Voice Mail. The phone dials *123, pauses, then dials the password. This would allow you to check your voicemail without rekeying the password, but keep your voicemail account relatively secure.

Yes, but I was specifically referring to the case of dialing *123 from the home phone. I realize that goes to the same programming, but I would have thought the software would know whether the originating phone is the one attached to my adapter or not.

UncleDavid, I don't think the software would know whether the originating phone is the one attached to your adapter or not.

NH is right, what you could best do is set a one touch speed dial on your Vonage phone. It's the most logical and doable (not to mention security-wise) option you have. Very Happy

By the way, speaking of voicemail can I ask anybody out there who still remembers how to disable voicemail without having to log in on the web account? What do I have to press on the phone to deactivate it? Someone is asking and honestly, I don't have the answer. Embarassed
