Here are the specifics:
1. D Link VWR
2. Ethernet port of VWR going to V-Tech 8100
3. Phone Line #1 going to fax machine (Separate #)
4. Phone Line #2 open and available
I want to be able to utilize Phone Line #2 to plug in a multiple phone system with the same exact phone # as the V-Tech/D Link ethernet port. When I originally set up this configuration it worked for a few days until the power went out. It hasn't worked since, and I am being told by L Jamab K Reham that it simply isn't possible as each phone # can only be pointed at 1 port. Anybody out there know anything more about the possiblity of doing this? |

What LJKR told you should be correct. (But I can't explain why it worked for a few days.) Save yourself some trouble and just buy a splitter. |

steve48 hits the nail on the head again..not possible i am afraid..get a splitter...there is a security feature on the vonage service so that the same number can not be on the same device at the same time, even though they technically can have the same number at the same time..they can not BOTH connect to the Vonage service at the same time, if one connects and then the other connects both devices will be denied by the server until one connects without the number on it and the other connects with the number...if you really had this working please let us know how you did it...but otherwise i think you may have gotten a wire confused or something |

When I first received the D Link VWR, I initially hooked up a Uniden multiple line phone system to the phone #2 port and it worked. I then decide that I wanted to also use the V-Tech 8100. I called vonage and had them configure the VWR so that when I plugged in the V-Tech into the ethernet port it would work, It did. Now both of these separate phone configurations rang under the same phone number. The tech at the time told me that I would only be able to use the V-Tech with this appointed number, however, for several days both phones worked. Then my power went out and this exact configuration no longer worked. I suspect when the power went out and came back on, the VWR was reset to the configuration Vonage last applied. As for this splitter, please provide more info. Model #, where can it be purchased, etc. |

Steve is right, your number can only be attached to one port at a time.
The only time this is not true is while you are in the process of replacing a device. During this time the old device remains active while the new device is being prepared for use.
As for the splitter, you are looking for any standard telephone jack splitter. They can be purchased at almost any electronics store for a very nominal price (a couple bucks).
The only thing you need to stay away from is a two line splitter. These are the devices that seperate multiple lines coming into the same jack into seperate jacks.
You will need a splitter that seperates a single line into two jacks.

Please forgive my ignorance, but I'm not comprehending how the use of a splitter will solve this issue. The V-Tech can only be plugged into an ethernet port on the VWR. The V-Tech, as far as I can figure is not compatible with standard phone lines, or splitters. If I'm wrong please let me know. One other thing, is there any way that I can configure the existing wiring and phone jacks in my home to work just as they did when I had verizon. All phone jacks were appointed to 1 number and rang simultaneously. |

You're right, I was wrong. The Vtech 8100 is a VoIP phone. A splitter will do you no good. Either the Vtech or the VWR phone port can be provisioned with your Vonage number at any one time, but not both. I'm afraid there's no good solution to your problem.
I see two options. Buy a second line and provision the VWR with one and the V-tech with the other. Or, buy a good cordless phone and use the VWR with Vonage. Then a splitter will allow you to use both your house wiring and the cordless. |
