Hi all,
I got a new Vonage VTA adapter. I already have a LINKSYS adapter which works fine. The problem is I am not able to give an IP address to the VTA adapter. DHCP doesn't seem to work.
I could assign IP address to LINKSYS using IVR for the adapter. Is there anything similar for DLINK VTA??
somebody told me to got to 192.169.15.1 but site didn't open.
I am in India and I have no router. I connect LINKSYS directly to DSL Modem. Want to do same with VTA.
Help is urgently required.
thanks

vta requires a router. You can't plug it directly into a modem.

I suppose your could plug it directly into a cable modem that hands out an address using dhcp (and provided you could get any mac address matching issues corrected) but then you'd be paying for cable modem service just to run VoIP (couldn't connect anything else) and why would you want to do that?

I am in India and i don't have Vonage on all the time. I use it when I need to call up friends and family in the US or UK. kind of helps with international phone bills.
I had LINKSYS but I have sent it to my parents and I didn't know VTA would have this issue. |

what do you have plugged into your modem when you're not using Vonage?

Try 192.168.15.254 . I have my doubts about getting this to work without a router, but, according to the manual, that's the address that is automatically set if DHCP isn't working. |

ok, mjstraw is incorrect you can connect the VTA directly to any modem if you would like, i am not sure why you would not just invest in a 50 dollar router and hook up everything at once for convenience'
steve48 is correct with the IP..but the only way that you can get in to the VTA is to set a static IP address on your pc on
IP: 192.168.15.2
Sub: 255.255.255.0
DG: 192.168.15.254
the username for the UA is user and the password is user..not sure what logging in to the device is going to do for you though unless you want to set a static IP of your computer in to your device..if you connect the VTA to the cable modem and powercycle both device the VTA should get an IP address from the modem (which means that the power light will be blinking 3 or more times and then pause)if it does not the push in the reset button on the back of the device with the tip of a pen for 20 seconds and then let it reset itself, if that does not work you could try to put the IP, Sub, and DG of your PC that it gets when direct to the modem in to the VTA and then move back and forth
good luck |

"any modem"?
so how would I connect it to a DSL modem where the service requires PPPoE?
as I said in a follow-up post, a cable modem that gives out IP addresses via DHCP might work.

the DLink does not work like the PAP linksys; you need a caller id screen; put phone in line 1 and press *11 and the IP address will appear on caller ID screen, then use that IP to sign onto device; only the linksys PAP series uses audio ivr for IP and config info; like most DLink equipment it is not quite a match for other manufacturers such as linksys |
