you also wouldn't need a default gateway since the pc and the vta are on the same subnet

and around here at least, cable modems get "imprinted" with the mac address of the PC directly connected. This is why most routers have a "clone mac" address facility. Don't know how you'd duplicate that with a vta.

the DLink does not work like the PAP linksys; you need a caller id screen; put phone in line 1 and press *11 and the IP address will appear on caller ID screen, then use that IP to sign onto device; only the linksys PAP series uses audio ivr for IP and config info; like most DLink equipment it is not quite a match for other manufacturers such as linksys

very cool - any other interesting * codes for the vta?

Mark

PS - it worked from a phone on line 2 as well.

easy MJ are you answering questions or answering me..the guy is Inida and most likely uses BSNL as his ISP which in many cases does not require PPPoE just as his Linksys phone adapter probably a PAP2 was connected directly he said can not handle PPPoE either...so i was guessing that his connection regardless of ISP is DHCP...

If he sets a static on his PC and then connects it directly to the VTA he would have to put in a default gateway, try it with out it..you will not get in.

And a majority of ISPs in the US as well no longer require MAC clones, and if they do it is only in a few areas

Lots of assumptions required - hardly justifies saying "any modem"

I can't find where he can't handle PPPoE

if his connection is DHCP and if it's not locked to a particular MAC then he could directly connect the vta.

if (an equally valid set of "ifs") his connection is PPPoE or is locked to a particular MAC or is PPTP or... then he can't

Connection to another host on the same [sub]network does NOT require the use of a gateway. Gateways are only needed to get to another [sub]network - hence the term gateway.

If the pc is 192.168.1.100 and the vta is 192.168.1.150 the pc will simply arp for the MAC address associated with 192.168.1.150 and then transmit the packet directly to that MAC address.

Hi Every one,

I am also facing the same kind of problem. I have connected my vta phone adapter to computer via blue cable supplied by vonage. But my computer seems its not detecting the adapter.

I tried access the ip address 192.168.15.254 but no response.

I am getting the internet through a cable modem directly to my pc via ethernet card, i am not having any physical modem at my home. ISP has assigned a local ip address to my computer when i configured the assigned ip in my LAN setup i will get the internet.

My first requirement is, how do i get vta adapter home page in my computer browser? I have also attached called id phone and typed *11 but getting message from phone as "your vonage network configuration is not correct ...."

Could you please some one can give me some trouble shooting techniques.

Regards
Ven

Hello, Ve. Welcome aboard.

You'll get better help on this if you start a new thread. People tend to ignore new activity on long-dead threads. Include all the technical details listed in the sticky message at the top of the forum.
