Post subject: International Calls placed to India being dropped
Hi All:
I have been using
Vonage
(for the most part a good service), but have been facing problems while placing calls to India.
Problem 1:
If I call Hyderabad/Bangalore (the two "Tech" cities) the connection seems
ok. but the connections to othe cities is just horrible. worse than trying to
use a cellphone inside a tunnel.
Problem 2:
I have to make the call a coupl eof times before I actually am able to speak to anyone on the other end, only to find out that the other person has picked up the call twice and did not hear anyone on the calling end.
Problem 3:
it is related to Problem 2 in the fact that the ring tone continues even after the other person picks up the call. Has anyone had similar problems ?
and if so what mathe solution be ?
Problem 4:
Is it better to not be surfing the net at the same time as making these international phone calls ?
Thanks a bunch.

Hi Peoples:
anyone who has been waitingfor a response on this read on.
After posting this message and seeing that no one had a clue on the answer, I called up
Vonage
and decided to give their excellent Customer Service a try. This is what I found out:
Apparently
Vonage
does not have its own line/switch in most Foreign countries (which incldues India). Due to this th ephone calls made are routed through the existing infrastructure on the local telecommunications network. In the case of India, apparently the switches/lines are quite old (apparently) and the call may not go through on the first try. Keep trying and it will work. Paraphrasing vonage... "Now that we have you as a customer Deal with all our problems. It is easier for us to blame the other country's infrastructure than to actually fix the problem."
Cheers hope this has been helpful in some way
