Hi
We've had Vonage for a couple of months but had to get a new wireless router last weekend. Since we put the new router in, whenever we've been on a call the internet connection keeps going internittently down. The call gets lost for a few seconds but then usually, but not always, comes back. We're running a home business so losing calls is a major problem!
BTW, its not just the wireless that's going down due to clash of wireless and phone - the whole internet connection is being lost on wired PCs also.
Here's some info:
1. Your location - Small town in Oregon 2. Your ISP name and type (cable, DSL, wireless etc) - Local Company DSL 3. Upload and download speeds Upload - 434kbps Download - 332kbps 4. Modem make and model - Modem is a StarSmart VikingII, then have a DlinkWBR2310 5. Type of Vonage adapter used ie RT31P2 or PAP2 : Motorola VT2142 6. Setup of Network ie Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC : Modem to Wireless to Vonage/PCs 7. Issue you are experiencing ie dropped calls, choppy audio etc : See Above 8. Run this Voip Test: After the test has fully completed, in the Advanced Tab, click on "View Text" in the lower right hand corner. Copy-N-Paste that data into your post. :
Speed test statistics --------------------- Download speed: 331984 bps Upload speed: 433968 bps Quality of service: 50 % Download test type: socket Upload test type: socket Maximum download pause: 312 ms Average download pause: 34 ms Minimum round trip time to server: 146 ms Average round trip time to server: 154 ms
Voip test statistics -------------------- Jitter: you --> server: 50.4 ms Jitter: server --> you: 16.8 ms Packet loss: you --> server: 0.8 % Packet loss: server --> you: 0.0 % Packet discards: 0.1 % Packets out of order: 0.0 % Number of supported Voip lines: 5 Estimated MOS score: 3.4
I tried setting up port forwarding throught he Dlink but that didnt seem to make any difference.
We also didn't have any trouble with our old wireless router (a netgear) that was set up in the same way - we've just been having trouble since we put the new Dlink in.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks |

This is usually caused by using MAC Address Cloning on your Vonage device.
When you originally installed the VT2142, did you tell it to clone the MAC address of your primary PC? If so, you need to turn that off, because you now have two devices on your network (the VT2142 and your PC) that have the same MAC address. Your D-Link is simply getting confused as to which is which. |

Thanks for the reply
The MAC address on the Vonage is still its default value.
I don't know if this will affect anything but the Vonage is on a different subnet to the rest of the network. I've tried changing its IP so it has a static IP on the same subnet as everything else but no matter what I do it doesn't actually seem to change the IP - it seems to say its changed in the admin tool but it can still only be accessed using the default IP and can only connect up to it on a connection on its different subnet. Would this cause any problems? |

I had the same issue with my first dlink DGL-4300 but the newer hardware revision of the same router took care of it. What router do you have? What hardware rev and what firmware have you tried? |

you should not have any issues changing the 2142 to static settings//although I have heard of people having issue if they try to use Firefox to change settings on the 2142, make sure you are using Internet Explorer, also when you are setting the static how are you trying to access it? If you are connected to the LAN port on the device changing the WAN to a static on the same subnet of the rest of your network will not change anything on the LAN side
are you changing the local IP of the device in the LAN settings? |
