Have any the good readers seen news on whether it will be possible to migrate the UK Phone number from Vonage to another provider?
I'm thinking of the situation if Vonage is killed off by this Verison patent case. Strange that subscribers in countries outside of the USA can be affected by the dubious patents granted by the US Patents Offices. I guess Verison will offer a similar service in the UK if they kill off Vonage ? Ho Ho Ho.
I had a couple of thousand pounds worth of promotional pens printed with the Vonage based contact number for my small business. This was in November when I'd not spotted the Verison/Vonage spat. So it would be kind of handy to be able to move the number.
I like the Vonage service, but like most services it has the occasional glitch. It is certainly better value than the local BT equivalent. |

As far as I am aware, UK phone companies won't play ball with Vonage and are making it harder to import/export numbers.
It took a long time for BT to accept porting from cable companies and even then they tried their best to block it.......so don't hold your breath with Vonage...........its a long process and if OFCOM say no, then its no. |

If you can't bring a number into Vonage, you probably cannot bring it out to another provider.
Please let us know your results.
Cheers. |

I too am concerned about losing my number if I need to move to another provider.
All mobile phone networks must provide facilities to let you take your number with you, why should the rules be any different for voip/landline companies?
Voip.co.uk looks like a good alternative - if we do have to move and Vonage don't ask for their hardware back, would we be able to use the Linksys Vonage adaptor with the voip.co.uk service? |

I think you will find that Vonage only supply locked hardware.
Get an unlocked ATA and increase your options... your in charge |

My preference is that Vonage stay in business rather than being taken out by a USA telecoms provider who has little interest in what happens east of the 70th Parallel.
i'll raise the issue with Ofcom and let you know if I get any sense out of them. |

Whats the problem? Vonage is a US telcom provider who is trying to impose its standards here in UK.
For too long there has been broken promises over caller ID and of course their insistance that they Vonage are a US company and we would just have to accept US voicemail.
Fortunately there is choice....... |

It looks like Vonage can move your number from Vonage
http://vonage.co.uk/features.php?feature=keep_your_number
I believe they can move BT numbers (and possibly some TalkTalk) numbers and Virgin Media will come onstream later this summer. |
