I just read that if you signed up after Feb,2007 you are under a 2 year contract. I did not know this, I thought it was 6 months. This is a little upsetting. I paid all this money to get hooked up and have to pay more to get unhooked.
It's only $40. You'll save much more then this in the first 6 months so you'll still come out ahead. You probably got a free adapter or rebate as part of the deal, too.

I am working for
Vonage
indirectly... and
Vonage
has definitely got contingency plans if and when the verdict in their case against Verizon doesn't go their way. They have set-up a supposed "technology" that would actually support the same phone service that it's giving to all
Vonage
customers....
Verizon I guess is definitely threatened...

Well my question is that if they have something....a contingency plan, why don't they implement it now and get out from under these alleged patent infringements? I am thinking about leaving
Vonage
now because I am tired of these issues being constantly up in the air. They just want to drag this crap out in court. I am worried about my service and keeping my number. So if they don't end this in a few days, I am thinking of moving to AT&T CallVantage or some other
Voip
service.

Is it possible to port your
Vonage
number to POTS?
I like my
Vonage
service and hope not to have switch, but I feel like it would be prudent to start to think about some of these things.
Qworst will not port an ex-Qworst number back into a different exchange. So, if you went
Voip
to keep a number with you as you moved, you may be SOL.

The patent infringement lawsuit could follow you to next service...and the next service...and the next service...IMOHO, stay here, unless you have a different reason, other than the suit. But you have to do what your mind allows.

If
Vonage
goes directly to the contigency plan then it indirectly proves that they have been infringing on Verizon's patents which could leve themselves open for future law suits and monies that verizon could say that
Vonage
stole from them, by using their patents.
It is much safer to go this way, have a judge decide. That way damages can be assigned by the court.
Something similiar happend last year when RIM was sued because of the communication in the blackberry as well as other companies were sued.

This is getting beyond ugly.
Vonage
is now prohibited from signing up new customers........ They will obviously appeal, but this is really going to hurt them badly. I doubt this will effect service for existing customers short term, but I can't imagine what Vonage's stock price is going to open at on Monday........
I am confused, people say
Vonage
is allowed and other say they are not allowed. I do believe about sending letters to the judge, but I bet Verizon really wouldn't care.

That's quite possible. It's also possible that their workaround would cost a lot more or be difficult or expensive to implement, It is possible that they are working desperately in the background to implement it, and are stalling for time so they can get it done, too.

The real issue is whether
Vonage
will ever make a profit. This thrust by Verizon may take
Vonage
down regardless of 2+ million customers.

Finally, someone has spotted the looming disaster. As one Wall St analyst put it, "Vonage is swirling down the drain". Verizon will have won, stockholders and customers will be left holding the bag.
