Vonage Receives Temporary Stay In Verizon Patent Litigation, Continues to Sell Service

HOLMDEL, N.J., April 6, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Vonage today secured a temporary stay from U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, DC. The stay enables Vonage to continue to sign up new customers until the Appellate court can hear Vonage's request for a permanent stay. The Court's ruling allows Vonage to continue to provide phone service to existing customers.

Earlier today the U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va. indicated it would enter an injunction against Vonage effective April 12, 2007 in connection with certain Verizon technology on which it was found to be infringing. The Court indicated that Vonage would be barred from acquiring new customers during its appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C. In response, Vonage filed for and received an emergency stay of the injunction from the Federal Circuit.

I am a big fan of Vonage, the service has been ok for me. People pay good money for a cell phone that doesn't work all the time and when it does it doesn't do a great job.

I have a free soft phone for 2 months and also the Vonage Talk is a great idea for travelers wanting to call home for free using the headset while the Vonage person they are calling uses the phone.

I am not too sure why more people haven't signed up with Vonage. In my area I can't get a local number so that is a big deterrent for people.

I am sure once all this legal stuff is done away with Vonage will become faster, stronger, it can be rebuilt.

I hate to say it as I've had 2 Vonage adapters for almost 2 years with very little problems, but...

....I signed up tonight for Lingo so in case Vonage tanks, I have a contingency in place.. Although they look to offer the same features as Vonage and more for just $21.99 (ACR, distinctive ring).. Worst case I'll just have to wait for the LNP to go through if Vonage shuts down for any number of reasons..

...sigh.... I hate you Verizon..... compete, don't bully...

Lingo isn't available in Canada, but they have service under a different name, the options aren't as good as Lingo or Vonage. Vonage has to continue, not sure what I will do without it.

I just left Lingo for Vonage. I had them for over 2 years and never had any problems. The thing is don't have a question, because no one can give you an answer. The caller ID would would not seem to work with my homeseer program. I was told that people was using Vonage and not having any problems. Now I tried to get help on this problem with Lingo and nothing. After switching to Vonage, all is working great, I just hope we all can hang in there. I am concerned that my phone has not been ringing as much as it use to, but no one has said anything yet. The sound on Lingo and Vonage is great, stay away from packet 8. Sound is really bad, echo is awful.
I don't want to switch again. Lets just hope for the best for Vonage, and they remember the people that is hanging in there for them.

I've only had Vonage since January and for the first month and a half had no issues. Then the last month there have been several outages and two just today. For a company that is going to be loosing customers right and left out of fear you'd think they'd be doing a better job not pissing off the ones they do have.

I just read that if you signed up after Feb,2007 you are under a 2 year contract. I did not know this, I thought it was 6 months. This is a little upsetting. I paid all this money to get hooked up and have to pay more to get unhooked. My fault, should have read the fine print. Just getting a little concern why my phone has not rang as much the last week. Its really ok, but just seems funny. I have not heard anyone saying they could not get a hold of me. Maybe I am loosing all of my friends or they have a life.I have caught my phone not ringing, but I hear the announcement through my homeseer program. I never had this problem until I switched companies. Still not really that big of a deal, because the homeseer tells me a call is coming in. Maybe should call Vonage on this and ask them.

I know this does no good, but I just e-mailed verizon telling them I vowed to never use their cell phone or internet service.
Can we get a letter to the judge going??? This company must be stopped.

Whay gripes me was Verizon's statement that Vonage was getting customers that were their's.

Bull...t! Verizon does not offer their cable service nor Voip in my area.

And because of that, can I sue Verizon for unlawfully causing my phone service to be terminated if they force Vonage to shut down?
