Having problems using a Dlink DI-524 router with Vonage, my incoming voice keeps on getting aborted. Are there any low end small office wireless routers that people can recommend, I assume with QoS, which would improve my Vonage experience? |

My favorite is the Linksys WRT54GL, which is pretty reasonably priced and is a Linux-based router that can take aftermarket firmware (though the stock firmware is pretty good in its own right).
On the lower end, buffalo makes a couple of clones of the WRT54GL that can also take many (but not all) of the aftermarket firmwares. My current favorite aftermarket firmware is "Tomato", you can find it at http://www.polarcloud.com/tomato |

The experts in here seem to like the WRT54G, especially running 3rd party firmware. In the meanwhile, is a firewall running on the D-link? If so, try turning it off. Also, what kind of phone are you using? If it's a 2.4 GHz cordless, try a corded phone and see how that works. |

small correction - the WRT54G is no longer a Linux-based router and there isn't enough memory to run most of the aftermarket firmwares. the WRT54GL (L = Linux) is the Linux-enabled replacement.
The WRT54G is a decent router, but the WRT54GL is far, far better. |

I had some QOS issues and changed to the DLink DI-625...It's worked flawlessly since installation. I would certainly recommend it. I tested it by downloading several large files to two computers while making a call...not problems at all. |

Do you mean DI-624? Looked on the Dlink website and cannot fine any reference to the 625.[

Ditto.
EDIT: I'm also liking the Linksys WRTP54G-NA, although it doesn't have any aftermarket firmware yet. I've got my Vonage softphone on it and it's working the best yet for that purpose. |

Thanks for all the good input. I ended up purchasing a Dlink DIR-655 since it had great reviews and has a full set of QoS features. Not a big fan of purchasing Draft N Routers but to get the latest and greatest features such as the most recent QoS implementations I felt it was the way to go. Will let you know if my Vonage performance improves with the router upgrade. |

It would appear that the dir-655 and most other d-link products with QoS use Ubicom's StreamEngine technology. This is the same engine used in the di-102, Hawking Tech's HBB1 and a similar Linksys unit.
The 655 seems to allow more granularity than the stand-alone units. You can restrict the QoS to certain combinations of source and destination IP addresses.
This QoS mechanism only affects outbound traffic. If you're having Voip trouble when downloading a big file it probably won't help.
