I read on their website that the software was free, but I couldn't find anywhere to download it.
I called Vonage tech support here in Canada about Vonage Talk, I was informed that I needed a V-Phone or Softphone. I told the guy that isn't really free if I have to buy the V-Phone or pay the $12.99 (CDN rate) for softphone. He agreed with me, and offered me 2 free months of service and waived the connection fees. I then asked about a contract and he told me no problem cancel when you want. I will need to cancel it before the 2 month free trial otherwise there would be the standard fee of canceling a feature.
I agreed and love the service, the sound quality is much better than using the phone. Now when traveling I can call home for free.
Call your Vonage tech and see if you can get the deal and give Softphone a try. |

To download softphone (XTen), sign into your account and in the search pane, enter "download softphone". A popup frame comes up (no URL showing) with links to the download. Several clicks later (choose PC or MAC versions) you get to the download (still without a URL window showing)
You may also reach download when an "Equipment" link shows on the left-side link list. category/ softphone
Still looking to try TALK software. If you find that link, drop me a PM, eh? I'm not sure it will work with my softphone account, but ready to try it out.
I like softphone, too. I prefer it to my regular line for home use. |

I have the soft phone x-pro working and I love it.
Is Vonage Talk different than Soft phone? |

If you were actually inquiring about v-talk then they steered you in the wrong direction. V-talk currently only allows calls to Vonage lines in its current state, but it can be found here: https://pctalk.vonage.com/ and is in-fact free. |

I guess I should have asked if anyone knew about Vonage Talk before I called tech support. This is what I was looking for, but I don't think I can receive calls from my house phone on this can I? Looks like I can only make calls from this to other Vonage numbers. |

Correct, it is only Vonage to Vonage at this point. According to tech support the info they have says the full featured version(Vonage to PSTN, and vice versa) was going to be rolled out March 1st. This apparently didn't happen so when it will actually appear(if ever) is anyone guess. |

Would be good if I could receive calls from my Vonage home phone. I will continue with the softphone service i got for 2 months free, then I will cancel and use this. |

Well, it loaded fine; CyberPhoneK handset seems to be correct, ringer works fine. I couldn't get it to ring my Vonage lines, but it may be I'm not formatting the call # input correctly. It doesn't want to connect to the server. I get an "internal server error".
I'm really looking for good software to use on my Dell Axim. SJlabs stopped support and I went to Skype for that use. (works perfectly) Skype has software tailored to dozens of devices and my $10 call time may last all year.
It was worth trying TALK, but no-go for functionality. My XTen does fine, though I wish it had a better looking dialer skin. (I am becoming accustomed to it) |

With Vonage Talk you have to dial 1 area code and number, but with the soft phone if it is a local number just dial the 7 digit number. |
