The new non-Tivo HD DVRs are out from DirecTV: http://directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPage.jsp?assetId=900025
I currently have a couple of the TiVo HD DVRs. They currently work by making the TiVo "phone call" over serial PPP and making the DirecTV phone call over Vonage.
My question is, has anyone got one of these boxes? Is it easier to get working over a vonage line than the old TiVo based boxes were? I would think that since it's not a TiVo that it wouldn't need to make the weekly TiVo call, and instead would just make the once-a-month call for PPV purchases and the like. Can anyone confirm that? |

I have been asking another Direct TV question, maybe i did not post it right for i have never seen my question.
I have a motor home that is set up for direct tv when i am traveling has the dish installed on top ect. All I need to do is put in the zip code where i am at and can watch tv, and direct tv also has Hughesnet which lets me connect to the internet, I wonder if i have the modem ect hooked up if i can use my Vonage with my Direct TV Hughesnet.
Any ideas, suggestions etc
thanks

How fast is the line? If it's at least...oh.... 386k I think you could! as long as it could keep a constant connection (the sattelite><internet) it would work. |
