Post subject: Possible to port from Vonage to AT&T Callvantage?
I have two lines, one based in VA (703 area code) and one based in PA (717 area code), the latter of which is in my local area. I received both numbers from
Vonage
. The 703 is my main number and the 717 is a virtual number. Is it possible to port these both to AT&T Callvantage?
From various FAQs, my understanding is that
Vonage
and AT&T have to have an existing relationship to do the porting --
Voip
providers are not regulated the same under LNP rules -- but that
Vonage
and AT&T do indeed have that relationship. I do not yet understand whether Callvantage will allow porting a second number onto an account (i.e. moving a virtual number from
Vonage
to become a virtual number on Callvantage). Does anyone know?
I am contemplating my options due to Vonage's legal woes (which I understand may be clearing up after this week's VoiceOne deal) and because I've read Callvantage's call quality may be just a bit better.

I would suggest if you are happy with
Vonage
stick with them,
Vonage
isn't going anywhere anytime soon, and trust me porting is a PITA, not worth it if you want a 'minor increase in voice quality'. Not unless your
Vonage
line has really bad quality at least. Also ATT (which is more SBC than ATT) isn't the greatest company... I'm not the biggest fan of
Vonage
(mostly because they don't allow BYOD on main lines) but I think you can do better than ATT...
Vonage
and ATT don't need to have a direct relationship. However the two rate centers your numbers are in have to include a presence by one of the upstream carriers that serves ATT CallVantage (presumably ATT but they may resell when needed).
As for if CallVantage supports the virtual number feature, you'd have to ask them. I wouldn't count on it...
