Speed test statistics --------------------- Download speed: 4773008 bps Upload speed: 652400 bps Quality of service: 70 % Download test type: socket Upload test type: socket Maximum download pause: 20 ms Average download pause: 2 ms Minimum round trip time to server: 76 ms Average round trip time to server: 167 ms
Voip test statistics -------------------- Jitter: you --> server: 3.8 ms Jitter: server --> you: 8.1 ms Packet loss: you --> server: 0.0 % Packet loss: server --> you: 0.0 % Packet discards: 0.0 % Packets out of order: 0.0 % Number of supported Voip lines: 11 Estimated MOS score: 3.9
Above are my results from the Voip Speed Test. I am having some issues with choppy audio. Would a QoS Router help this? My current router is a 2wire from SBC with built in firewall, wifi, etc. What do you guys think is the best bet to fix my problem. If it is a new router which one would you suggest. I would like a all in one if I have to upgrade. Maybe something with ddns as well as QoS. Thanks, Jon |

QoS is certainly a good idea, but before you start spending money, it would be a good idea to troubleshoot a bit more. Your test results are pretty good, notwithstanding an average round trip time that's a bit high.
What is your current complete network setup? If you eliminate everything except the modem and Vonage unit, does the problem go away? |

I wish it was that straight forward. But the problem isn't always happening. My g/f told me about it and she was not downloading anything etc. So it seams to be intermitant and I have yet to recreate it. |

Don't worry about QoS routers. Start with the basics first. Your avg round trip time is a little high. Anything over 150 ms is going to cause problems. Adjust your bandwidth saver in your web account, set it to normal. that should be enough to fix the problem. |

I'd leave everything alone for just a bit, until you have a better feel for the problem. Margulis9's suggestion is a good one, but wait just a bit. |
