I have the Linksys RT31P2 as my Vonage device. Standing alone, with no other devices in the mix, it has worked fine since I've had it. However, I recently bought a Linksys WRT54GS (version 3) to take advantage of the improved QoS, and to possibly some day install third party firmware.
I now have problems. When I make an outgoing call, I either get a fast busy signal, or silence (no ringing, and I can't hear the party on the other end). When I make make an incoming call to my Vonage number, my call gets kicked over to my backup number (the one in place for when Vonage is down), and my phone never rings.
I have now set up my system as follows: Cable modem>54GS> to the WAN port of the Vonage RT31P2. I have a cable going from phone port 1 to my home wiring. I have disconnected the telephone company's wiring (and for the last year, this worked fine when the RT31P was the only device in the equation). Nothing else is plugged into the RT31P2.
After searching here and spending a few hours on some things others have tried, I've tried the following: -disabled firewall on the WRT54GS - put in the Vonage device in the DMZ - forwarded a bunch of ports, per instructions on Vonage's site, on the WRT54GS to the RT31P.
Nothing has worked, and I still have a non-functional phone. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help. |

To be sure that is it the GS that is causing the issue you may want to temporarily bypass it. Just put the RT31P2 direct up to your cable modem and re-test. If the issue goes away then we know for sure it is your new GS that is causing the issue and not some other fault that popped up in the Vonage adapter or setup. |

Things seem to be working now - I did a hard reset to reset the Vonage router to factory defaults, and then rebooted the modem, router, and Vonage router. All seems to be working. Thank you for the suggestion. |

Powerful lesson here. Power cycling the network will do wonders 80% of the time. |

Maybe someone here has heard about these 2 issues
Issue #1, people do not know my Voip # they only know my regular home # that they have used for the last 5 years so I forward that # to my Voip. Occasionally I will notice my phones have not rang in a while, so I pick up my cell and call my house phone, it rings once and then instantly goes to a traditional busy signal (as it trys to forward to the Voip) and this happens off and on, I will try it and it will work, I will try it a few hours later and it wont. The entire time I am staring at my Voip and it definately isnt being used so there is no reason for a busy signal. This happened with my old Voip (viatalk) and I switched to Vonage thinking they would have better results....... I cant have the phone ringing busy on a business phone either....
Issue # 2 One out of every 8 times I call my Vonage line direct from another phone it has a fast busy ring for about 4 seconds and they screams an ear piercing screach and says call failed on my cell. Any ideas there?
Thanks to ANYONE who responds!

Please provide more detail info of your system setup. I'd be willing to bet that your issues are related to your ISP speeds or other hardware in your setup since you have the same issues with another provider. |

I have DSL that comes into a westtel versalink 327 there are 4 ports on that one for the wall networking one for a wireless router, and one for another wireless router that is for the neighboring company, and the one that is used for Vonage. For speeds I am getting 1.5 on the download and if no one is on a phone I get about a 500 on the upload and if we are on one line then I get about a 380 and if on both lines we get about a 280. I am not real tech savy but we have spent over $1000 trying to get everything to work properly with the networking guys and still have issues. Have you been with Vonage for a while? Do they ever have outages, the old company I was with had them every other day (Viatalk) It was aweful. Once in a while someones voice goes wacky and sound like a computer on a roller coaster with Vonage and I have to hang up and call back and its fine but when I talk to customers this is not good. So much for saving money. I might have to switch back to my regular phone bill of $250/mo. Any ideas? |

Not very familar with DSL but start by having Vonage tech support change your SIP port to something most liikely other than 5060. You could be on a bad Vonage server or overloaded one also.. YOu might also want to have them assign you to server for troubleshooting. |

Try logging in to your Vonage online account. Go to bandwidth saver that is under the features tab. Set the bandwidth to 50kbps, or the HIGHER setup..your Vonage is eating up all your bandwidth so try reducing it. Or call the customer care 1VONAGEHELP..ask them that you want to reduce your bandwidth because its eating up everything |
