Is there anyway to have your name and/or company name show up on the OTHER locations Caller ID? Or does not going through the phone company prevent this? Thanks! |

Vonage tech support told me that they do not currently support outbound caller ID names. I hope they will find a solution, as this is keeping me from moving my business lines to Vonage.

I just called Vonage yesterday and they said that my name WOULD show up on the other locations called id. I wish they could make up their minds. |

Yeah, I keep asking, and I have gotten a number of different answers. I finally talked to someone in tech support that sounded like he actually knew what was going on. He indicated that caller ID name transfers in a few cases, but that it usually doesn't work that way. He also confirmed that new numbers will not have outgoing name in any case. He said they're working on it...hopefully not in the same way that they are working on the website performance issues.<G>
If you are depending upon having this feature, you might want to ask again. Talk to tech support, not to sales. |

I have two Vonage phone numbers that are both set up on the same phone adapter. One of them sends the phone number as the name, so the person I call sees my phone number twice. The other number says "Vonage Holdings" for the name, then my number.
Wish they would make it work like a normal phone. Few things separate Vonage service from regular POTS, but that is one of the differences. Seems to be something we have to live with for now. |

I suspect that Vonage has been working on this. We just had a friend switch to Vonage and his caller ID shows up as his number in the name location and then his number again. I take that as a sign that they're getting closer to being able to edit the name field and hopefully someday, we'll have the option to edit the name field ourselves, which some cell carriers now allow. |

Caller ID Name is not sent through the telephone network as Caller ID Number is. When you receive a call from 2145550000 (for example), your local phone company uses an SS7 (signalling system) database to look up the name associated with that number. This is called the CNAM database, and CNAM is only updated by the telcos.
Some telephone companies (particularly Competitive carriers) will allow you to choose your own CNAM when you order telephone service. If you order 9095559999 from the telco and tell them you want the CNAM of "Queen of England", that CNAM will show up whenever you make a call out from 9095559999. If someone spoofs your 9095559999 number, "Queen of England" will show up on the Caller ID name to the receipient party. |
