All,
I have had vonage service and the RT router for about 3 years or so. i do not use the RT for its router services, only as a phone adapter.
i am the kind of person who likes to upgrade equipment if there is a better model on the market.
i have a linksys modem, wrt 330 N router and rt which is only used for phone services. i have comcast.
i am not having any issues with the phone service that i am aware of.. id just like to know if its time to upgrade to, say, the PAP2 since its newer? (newer than the RT)
thank you to all who will share their opinion. and if you need more info, please let me know. |

the pap2 and rt31p2 came out roughly at the same time. the pap version 2 (called pap2v2) is newer. However, if you connect any device into your WRT300n, it will be subject to any QOS or firewalling from that said device.
Basically you'd need to reconfigure your 300N and set up the DMZ for your pap2's ip address.
That being said, though, you certainly won't get any better service upgrading. They're both powered more or less by the same technology. I'd hold off. |

thank you for your reply. i have the 330 N router which is designed for VOIP and gaming so i probably would not have to do any port forwarding since i have never done that anyway? i had a wrt54gs router and i set that port the RT was plugged into to high QoS but this 330 router has that feature built in to where it gives priority to voice, video and gaming traffic. i dont use the gaming feature; i bought it just for voip..
at any event, with everything being equal, i wont get any increase in anything when going to the pap2 you say? if this is the general consensus here, i will keep what i have...
if it aint broke dont fix it? |

The only reason to switch to a PAP2 from an RT is to eliminate the extra router, since the PAP2 is just a phone adapter. Other than that, there is no difference. |
