First, let me say that i am new to networking, and do not know a lot about them.
Here is my setup:
Internet---->Linksys 3T31P2---->Linksys WRT54GS---->2 computers
the quality of my phone is not that good, it reminds me of a cell phone call. so i did some research on this forum, and found some info that said to forward ports 5060-5062 UDP & 10000-20000 UDP. I did this to both of my routers, but nothing seem to have changed with the quality of my Vonage phone. any suggestions? again, please make your response simple because i am new to networking.
Thank You! |

Have you tried calling Customer service? My quality was also not up to par, and I asked to see if I had the latest firmware version, I didn't. I was 2 or 3 versions behind. The new versions cleared up my echo problem and I think the sound quality is also better. |

To the following site.
http://www.pingplotter.com Follow the link in the upper middle of the page to 'download ping plotter'. Install this program. It will show you the latency and data loss on your network. Your quality issues are tied directly into the "health" of your network your Voip is running through.
If for example your ISP is Comcast and they are having dataloss issues then your Voip calling will be choppy. If they are having latency then your voice will be heard by the amount of latency on the network. Give your ISP a holla and inquire if there is any packetloss on your network. They can run a simple test to determine if this is the case.

I have the same exact hookup in my house however with no issues. It just may not be your router hookup and maybe your isp. |
