PostPosted: Thu Mar 29, 2007 6:07 pm    Post subject: Using multiple phone adapters from different ISPs Reply with quote Back to top

Hello,
I have two properties that are some distance from each other and each have a separate Internet connection. I would like to have Vonage available at both properties without having to travel with the phone adapter. Can I buy two phone adapters and have both properties connected at the same time, or does this require multiple Vonage accounts? Thanks!

I believe you can only use on adapter per account.

I only own one device, but as I understand it you can have two devices and switch back and forth between them on the Vonage web site. I've never done this, and you'll want to confirm it with Vonage, but I do remember several conversations about that a while back.

In the Add-ons menu of the Vonage Account page, there's a selection to "Move a number." It says "This page allows you to move a line from any device to any open port on any other device on your account." Since I only have one adapter all this seems to let me do is move my number from Port 1 to Port 2, but once you get two devices on your account it seems like it should be pretty easy to move the nubmer from one device to the other.

Would there be a way to automate it somehow so it "just works"? If I have to login to their website and change it, I may as well just have a single phone adapter and travel with it. Thanks for the info so far.

you may have multiple devices on one account and each device can be located in a different area and each have separate isp sources; you can have one account with a linksys TA and dsl at your country home and a motorola with satellite at your townhouse and perhaps a VWR wireless at your city apartment all with different isp, along with that you can have both the wifi and the Vphone for your hotel and/or hotspot visits; what is cool is that every one of those phones can ring at the same time with a call to any of the numbers

That sounds like exactly what I want, but other posts seem to imply this isn't possible. Can anyone confirm or deny this with any certainty? Thanks.

I called tech support on this matter and I was connected within 1 minute!

You can have as many devices that you want, BUT you can only have one device connected at a time. You can activate the device online or call Vonage to do so.

I hope this clears things up for you.

roscopco is correct, and caught a part of your post that I may have misunderstood.

As roscopco said, you can only have one of the devices active (making and receiving phone calls) at a time, and you must choose which device is active on your account page on the Vonage web site.

So, you cannot have it set up so both adapters ring at once, nor can you make phone calls from both devices at once. Only one device can be provisioned with Vonage at one time per account.

But you absolutely can leave one adapter at each location - you can even leave them both connected to the Internet if you want (though I'd unplug the "unused" one to save it from storm damage or power surges if you can), and you'll just have to remember to switch back and forth between adapters when you change locations.

Also a very important thing to remember is to make sure you have the correct 911 service address each time you switch addresses.
