Now that is the kind of info I was searching for. Thanks, One last question. Is there an API that can be used to fax via Vonage? Thanks again. Very helpful. Tim

You mean like a way to submit a PDF file and have it faxed out and charged to your phone number (i.a. as part of your minutes) as though you'd used a fax machine?

No, but that sure would be cool.

look here http://www.vonage.ca/features.php?feature=softphone for Softphone information and here http://www.vonage.ca/device.php?type=VPHONE for V-Phone information.

All you have to do to integrate use of these products with your application is (1) buy the product and install it on the necessary laptops and (2) arrange for your application to submit Click2Call commands of the form https://secure.click2callu.com/tpcc/makecall?username=username&password=password
&fromnumber=fromNumber&tonumber=toNumber

Actually, if you are using most SoftPhones (possibly V-Phone, I haven't tested it) there is no need to use Click2Call to initiate calls. You can typically initiate a call by passing the phone number as a command line option to the SoftPhone executable.

On the fax deal that is one thing we do now that would be cool via Vonage. We have a print to fax deal that we want to be able to fax any document right to fax? This can be done I know. Just need some api stuff. Thanks, Tim

Actually you can. If you set up your browser to handle SIP: or TEL: urls then you can open a SIP url in browser that opens a softphone, just as a URL referring to video might open a video player.

Right now browsers have a capability for setting up an association for a file. To get Explorer, Firefox, Opera, and others to honor these "protocols" (i.e., to launch the Voip software of your choice -Skype, SIP Communicator, OpenWengo, Pulver, etc.) requires some under the hood mods that a competent programmer can do (actually, Opera lets you create a protocol of your choosing in its settings and browse to a program for it to launch); for example, have a look at http://www.raizlabs.com/software/callme/; "callto" links supported by this software are Microsoft old-school; sip URLs are where it's at now.

Once correctly configured it is a lot more straightforward than C2C.

You don't have to. First of all, you start up the Softphone so that it registers with Vonage.

Then your application submits a url of the form
https://secure.click2callu.com/tpcc/makecall?username=username&password=password
&fromnumber=fromNumber&tonumber=toNumber

to the network.

That will ring the Softphone, and when you accept the call on the Softphone (or V-Phone), the "tonumber" will start ringing.

After writing this, I realized that your reply might have been to scerruti. And with this forum, you can edit, but you can't delete.
