Please HELP.
My VPhone works fine with my wife's laptop but not my laptop. Both share the same internet access - through Earthlink Cable.
After disabling all the firewalls (Windows, wireless router, antivirus program) and the trouble shooting with ATS people at Vonage I was told that there might be some kind of conflicts with "por 10,000 to 20,000". The VPhone is hitting the server OK (receiving side) but unable to talk back to my laptop/VPhone.
Any one knows how to set the ports for V phone? and any advise for the possible conflicts are greatly appreciated. I have three USB ports - and use removable hard drive.
I am using Windows XP.
Thanks, Liwen |

depending on which router you use on your network, you might need to do port forwarding on your router to allow sip protocol to go thru |

The other possibility is that you already have Port Forwarding set up - to the other PC - and the incoming packets are going to the other device. |

Can you tell me how to do the port forwarding? How to assign/change "port" so the packet will pass through? Thanks! |

you need to log into the setup page of your router and set up port forwarding. refer to your manual regarding this.

Ports used by Vonage Adapters
The following ports are needed for OUTGOING Internet communications from the Vonage device to the Vonage servers.
DNS: Port 53 UDP
TFTP: Port 21, 69, 2400 UDP
HTTP: Port 80 UDP
NTP: Port 123 UDP
SIP: Port 5061 UDP (used for older Vonage devices provisioned before 2005)
The following ports are needed for INCOMING and OUTGOING Internet communications from and to Vonage devices and servers.
RTP (Voice) Traffic: Ports 10000-20000 UDP. When a call is made, a random port between 10000 and 20000 is used for RTP (Voice) traffic. If any of these ports are blocked, you may experience one way or no audio. |

Thanks Tallisman...I can do that with my home router. However, when I travel on the road, say when I stay in a hotel, are you saying that I need to set the ports for the router in the hotel? That does not seem to be possible - and defeat the purpose of carrying V-phone. Please explain this to me (THANK AGAIN). |

not necessarily. vphones are plug and play devices, and you should have no problems with working with routers in hotels. |

Still not working. Here are more info:
1) My wife and my laptop use the same router
2) V-Phone works with my wife's laptop, but not mine
3) We both have a Thinkpad (hers T-40, mine is X62S)
4) About three months ago V-Phone did work with my laptop (when I was overseas) ONCE
5) In the last three months I added no software but I did add a removal USB harddrive (250 G) to do the backup
Any suggestion? MANY THANKS FOR YOUR HELP AGAIN. |
