My RT31P2 was working fine from 04/05 till yesterday... Now I'm getting this
error
. I'm starting to wounder if these forced firmware upgrades are the cause of my issue and the fact that I'm having to pay
Vonage
$99 for a new router.

I'm still on 1.30.01. No change in a long time and everything is working fine! Is there a later update? I now have a year on
Vonage
without a hiccup. I'm hoping it stays that way.
Curious though... Why did it cost you $99.00 for a broken router? I was under that if it broke CS would send you a new one.

Well if something happened during the firmware upgrade, like me power cycling my setup during the upgrade (which I have to do regularly nothing to do with Vonage). I think that may cause some issues. Or anything that could interupt or corrupt the install process really.
The warrenty on these things is only 1 month (or 90 days, I've gotten different answers from different reps) They said there was nothing they could do other than charge me $99. I requested overnight shipping (like others have claimed they have receieved) however just got notice today I can expect the phone in 3 days...

Try this if you haven't already.
1. Unplug the unit, including all lan and phone wires.
2. Hold in the reset button dont let it go. Now plug in the power and hold in the reset button for 30-45 seconds then let go of the button.
3. Wait 30 seconds and see if the power button stops blinking. If it does then power the unit off, plug the wires back in, power it back on and test the unit.
Let me know the results and we will see where to go from here.

I still have only 1.28 firmware on my box. I've tried power cycling and nothing changes. Any thoughts?

This may help:
"On this forum, I had been reading about firmware upgrades to the Linksys RT31P2 and how these were pushed-out automatically by
Vonage
when released. I decided to check my router. (Type 192.168.15.1 in your browser window; login with ID: admin and Password: admin. Look at upper right for the firmware version). The current firmware version is 1.30.01: my router was stuck on 1.28.xx. It took four calls to
Vonage
talking to different tech reps each time. The first promised to push out the firmware upgrade and assured me of no further problems. It never happened and he never followed up. The next sent me the upgrade file but with wrong password, then failed to call me back as promised after the connection was broken to reset the router. He didn't reply to two emails either. Very frustrating. Thankfully the last time, I got a rep who didn't treat me like an idiot, took my analysis of the problem, verified I had the right uprade file, gave me the password, waited until the firmware in my modem was upgraded, then we both wished each other a nice day.
