Post subject: New Firmware Needed, but how?
As many of you have undoubtedly experienced also, my
Voip
hasn't been working for about a week, and I got an email from
Vonage
telling me to reset my linksys adapter, apparently in order to push a new firmware update.
My current version is 1.26.01, and my phone still doesn't work, even after reset. I guess I need to wait and be optimistic that
Vonage
will do it automatically, because I do not have the patience to wait for over an hour for customer service, and they have not made the firmware available for download (I wonder why?)

some have had success this way:
unplug the power to the device and unplug any phone cords. press the reset button and continue to hold it while plugging the device back in. keep holding reset for 15 seconds.
watch for the power light to flash. if it does, leave it alone until it stops and your phone light lights up. if your power light never stops blinking, the device is probably dead.

Vonage
believes most people on
Vonage
are unable or lack the knowledge to upgrade so they have a secert hack code to upgrade your firmware I am guessing.
The lastest firmware I have is 127.0.1 anyway the golden rule is as long as it works don't upgrade. I really hate how
Vonage
does this because I don't like people having access to my network.

I just received my RT31P2 yesterday from
Vonage
. I too have firmware 1.27.01 for the router and my voice firmware is 2.0.13(LIb). I don't like that
Vonage
does the updates either, however, I do have an internal router. Does anyone know what port they use? I may try to nmap my external address to see if anything is open. Also, I may put this router behind my other one because the firewall rules on this thing are horrible. I have to open up ports to every address on the internet. WIth my D-Link I can define who can have access to what ports and when! This is much better in my opinion. Hope
Vonage
can make the fw better.
Does anyone know if there are other Linksys devices that work with
Vonage
? I was considering getting the WRT54GP2. Anyone have experience with this one?

heh, this is rich...
anyway, it uses tftp and there are lots of threads about it. try the shiny "forum search" icon that graces virtually every page.
I guess you know it doesn't matter if you're "open" because the device establishes the connection. if you were to block it, I *think* it would compromise its functionality. (your phone wouldn't work) but I may be wrong.

I just noticed in the
Vonage
®
Voip
Forums that the RT31P2 has a new upgraded firmware as of 02-Sept-05.
The New firmware version is v1.30.01 with 3.1.6(LI) voice. Your RT31P2 should be upgraded automatically by
Vonage
themselves, however mine was not. to upgrade do the following:
Unplug power
Hold down Reset button
Plug in power
wait 20 seconds
Release reset button
Wait for the light to stop blinking
Thx paul248 for this
As yet there is no changelog however if we find one we will let you know.

Post subject: Firmware Update
My Gizmo also says it's operating with 1.30.01 firmware. There have been a lot of updates in the year I have had it! I wonder what their all for?? The phone worked as soon as I installed it last January and has been working since without any problem that I have noticed. I keep hoping that one of these "Upgrades" will enable ACR.
