Just got connected with Vonage, and everything is fine, except my phone is telling me a very bizarre time/date now. It was all good, then it went way off.
Current time/date is Mar 24, 4:45pm here. Phone tells me it's Sep 11, 7:53am.
Is this something on my end? Or is Vonage sending bad info to my phone? I've never set the time/date on my phone before, it always picked it up from the phone line. |

hi,
try another phone.if that didn't resolve the problem log into your online account, swap the phone port from the current to the free port.Just reboot the vonage device then check the time.

That time is the default for that device, this means that the Vonage adapter could not contact Vonage's NTP server to get the correct time. This could be because of a firewall or something else blocking NTP(port 123). Tell us your network setup and we can give you an idea of what may be blocking this communication. |

Cable modem-> USR router -> Vonage modem
I was not aware I needed a port open for the Vonage device to function properly, so I will check out that port, and open if it's not.
If that doesn't change anything, I'll try Jayson's suggestion next. |

If your device is not getting the correct time then port 123(UDP) is blocking incoming traffic somewhere, either your router or your ISP is causing this(or your modem if it has router functionality). When your device starts up, it does not know what the time is, it send a request to Vonage's time server(time.vonage.net) and the time server send it back the time. If it is unable to get this response it will fail over to its default time, which is what you are seeing. Changing the port that your phone is connected to will NOT change or resolve this. The time is pulled down by your device, and not a specific port on the adapter. Changing it to port 2 will just be a waste of your time to even try, you can be 100% assured of that. This needs to be resolved by either opening port 123 in your router for inbound traffic or contacting your ISP to see if they are blocking inbound 123 for some reason. Who is your ISP by the way, I can tell you if I have heard of them blocking inbound ports if you provide me the name. |

You haven't yet mentioned when/where the phone tells you this. Is this in the caller ID display, and is that display built into the phone, or does the phone always display the date and time?
Do you have more than one phone? Are they all wrong? Do you have caller ID displays that are separate from your phone?
What model phone is it? What does it display after it has had its power removed? Does it start displaying a different time then, and does that time change after the first caller ID is received?
What does the documentation for the phone say about time and date? |

That's not likely to fix the DATE being wrong. |

Well, it seems to be fixed now.
I did open that port on my router, but I didn't see any immediate fixes on the phone. I left right after that though.
My phone(a Panasonic) always displays the time/date on it's display, but it updates it's time/date whenever it gets a call with the info on CID. So I can set the time/date to be accurate, but as soon as I get a phone call, it changed back to the September time/date. There is an option to turn it off, but that wouldn't have fixed the main issue here. And it was actually setting it ahead. I don't know if it simply wasn't changing the year, or it was sending the year, but either way, it was Sep 2007, when I went to edit the time/date manually.
I had also sent an email to Vonage about this, and recieved an email response today. They told me to login, change my time zone to something else, logout. Then, login and change it back to my time zone(Central), and restart the device.
Well, it's working now. Has the proper date/time displayed. |

I agree. I would defenitely try different phone and if that still happens using a different phone, reboot the whole network including the vonage adapter |
