I have a netgear fvs124 router/firewall and an rtp300. The rtp 300 works fine as the first inline router.. I can't get the rtp300 to work reliably if the 300 is behind the fvs 124... I have to have the 124 be the first in line in order to reach certain ports from the outside.. Has anyone been able to use the rtp 300 behind a fvs124g? If so how did you do it? Thanks in advance.. RIch

I haven't been in your situation, but try putting the RTP300 in the Netgear's DMZ.

Yes, the FVS124 does not have a true DMZ feature. It does by default block all inbound traffic though with very strict security rules. As an alternative to setting up a DMZ you can try to set up port forwarding. Here is a guide on how to do that(for the 114 but the steps are the same).

Thanks for the reply.. I actually did this for the one static ip I set up for the rtp300... Not knowing which ports to open .. for this one ip address I opened all the ports... ... but only for outbound.. Then I read that for the 124 all the out bound ports are open anyway.. So can you tell me what the exact ports are that are necessary for the rtp.300 and since all the ports are open outbound.. I would make this an inbound service. for the rtp's ip

Ports used by Vonage Adapters

The following ports are needed for OUTGOING Internet communications from the Vonage device to the Vonage servers.

DNS: Port 53 UDP

TFTP: Port 21, 69, 2400 UDP

HTTP: Port 80 UDP

NTP: Port 123 UDP

SIP: Port 5061 UDP (used for older Vonage devices provisioned before 2005)

The following ports are needed for INCOMING and OUTGOING Internet communications from and to Vonage devices and servers.

RTP (Voice) Traffic: Ports 10000-20000 UDP. When a call is made, a random port between 10000 and 20000 is used for RTP (Voice) traffic. If any of these ports are blocked, you may experience one way or no audio.

You don't need any port forwarding for Vonage to work, so I'm not surprised it didn't help you. I'm not familiar with your model of Netgear, but make sure it isn't blocking any ports outbound. Also try turning off its firewall to see if that helps.

I agree, you shouldn't need to forward./open any ports anywhere.

Question - which port of the 300 do you have plugged into which port of the 124G?
