I just read the article about Vonage losing a patent case against Verizon.
An injunction is set to take place in two weeks unless Vonage can convince the judge to not stay the injunction.
If the Judge does not stay the injunction and they cannot get emergency relief from an appeals court, then Vonage might have to shut down.
I would like to hear from Vonage with respect to what they intend to do to workaround the copyrights of Verizon.
I ported my long time telephone number to Vonage and now I am very concerned that I will lose my telephone number. This is a very serious issue.
I would like to hear from someone at Vonage with respect to what happens if the judge does not stay the injunction. I would like to know that I will be able to get my telephone number back! |

Filing an appeal might not necessarily get the injunction removed! The would have to file an emegerncy writ.
I am a lawyer; I know the system.
An Injuntion means.........STOP!
I am hoping for the best. I like Vongage. In the meantime I am very concerned about losing my phone number if the injunction is not stayed or lifted. |

Golly. Then I'd think you'd know the diff between a patent and a copyright. |

In my zeal to post my thoughts I did inadvertantly put copyright instead of patent. I edited my post.
Big deal; we still do not really know what is going to happen. |

What are our options if Vonage goes? For myself, I have a cell phone with free long distance and virtual fax machine and a Voip security system connection, so really my need for a home phone is very limited.
Vonage is really only for one thing, free calls to England. What are other people planning as their fall back?
I'm also worried that if Vonage gets shut down, there will be no way to get out of the service without paying a disconnection fee, for a service that doesn't work. |

First of all, I think it's very unlikely that Vonage will "go". If so, ALL Voip is gone, and that's not going to happen.
But if they do, they cannot charge you any further fees, especially a disconnection fee, and all you have to do is tell your credit card company not to pay it (and don't pay that part of your credit card bill, but be sure to follow the dispute procedures and document the date on which your service stopped working by saving output from the website). |

FWIW, I am a patent attorney. I would be very surprised that the injunction would not be stayed pending the appeal to the Federal Circuit. |
