It is getting heavy duty. All I care about is keeping my phone number! Obviously I want Vongae to prevail in this case. But it appears to me that Vonage is probably only the first target in Verizon attacking all other Viop carriers using it's patents.

The real issue will be to get the Patent reversed or work out a licensing deal with Verizon if it is not.

We will see.

I find it hard to believe that Verizon can use some legal maneuver to shut down all of the Voip or at least most of it. Now don't get me wrong, they would if they could. Where is Judge Green when you need him?

Personally, I want Vonage to stay independent and grow. But, on a wild guess, if Verizon thinks they are trying to beat down the stock and buy it out . . . Wouldn't it be funny if another old baby Bell bought it first? Of course the customers would lose as I expect the price would go up and depending on the baby Bell, the customer service would go down.

I love it when people complain about Vonage's customer service. They obviously haven't dealt with the same people I dealt with at Verizon.

I still plan to stay with Vonage. I still think Vonage will be here in some form or another. I think the idea mentioned that Vonage stock, with exception to the IPO flaw, has been rather stable for the hand being dealt Vonage.

Doesn't this situation call for a "rumor control" forum? The legal discussion is fascinating, and since this is a "stock' forum, I apoligize in advance if this is mis-posted, but the average user only needs to know;

1. Why I don't need to panic or jump ship over this.

It would appear that this is going to result in a successful (vonage) appeal or a takeover. Neither event resulting in a lapse in service.

If I'm wrong, I'd love to hear why. Will Verizon be more difficult to port out of with my number? What insanity would prompt a shut down by a Voip competitor that could easily swallow Vonage?

From a stock player standpoint. Why isn't it a good time to buy? Because you expect option holding Vonage execs to play this to the death (Bankruptcy court)?

Question

From a stock prospective this is like playing roulette in Las Vegas.

I found this blog very useful in determining what the actual patent allegations were and what it really means:

Much better than relying on the mainstream / media's interpretation.

They have no workaround.......

http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/telecom/2007-04-15-vonage-usat_N.htm

Plus they actually admit to losing 2.5% of their subscriber base per month (650,000 customers a year!).

It sure looks like a dismal picture. It looks like Vonage is at the mercy of the Courts and Verizon at this point.

I would like to port my number out too. Trouble is that my other line is a time warner voice line that is my dedicated fax line that I use for outgoing calls. Either way, I am stuck at this point, unless I go with another carrier that I currently have my long time telephone number on.

Let's see what happens.
