I get the fast busy signal when phones are connected via wall jacks, but phones plugged directly into Vonage work fine. I had wall jacks working for a year. tested every jack same result. did the reset thing and all that. You can actually make a call from the wall jack when phone is first connected, but can not "hang up" until disconnecting phone line. help please.

You probably have a phone somewhere that looks like it's on-hook but is actually off-hook. Take a close look at all your phones. If you don't spot it, unplug all the phones and then start re-connecting them one at a time.

That's probably a good diagnosis. If it's correct, the phone light on the Vonage unit will start to blink when you plug it into the wall jack.

Were you able to determine the root cause of the problem? How did you do this? We started having this issue and the phone light on Vonage device is blinking. We are uanble to figure out where the problem is.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Unfortunately, the forum member who had this problem hasn't posted in a year and a half.

Since your phone light blinks when you plug the Vonage box into the wall, you seem to have a problem with the wiring. Verify this by unplugging the box from the wall. Does the blinking stop?

Assuming the blinking stops when you unplug from the wall, has the setup ever worked? If not, have you disconnected the house wiring from any outside lines?

Thanks for the reply. We had this setup working for nearly two years before this problem started. I used a phone line tester and noticed that some wall jacks indicate that line is reversed (not sure what that means yet) and some have green light indicating that everything is fine but, all jacks, when connected to a phone have busy tone. BTW, the busy tone does stop when the cable is unplugged from the wall jack.

Thanks.

It's normal for all of the jacks to have reversed voltage when you use Vonage is this way. It comes from the fact that you use a standard phone cord to plug the Vonage unit into the wall, and the connectors are pointed in opposite directions. Most phones don't care, but this does cause problems with some alarm systems. I don't know why some of your jacks appear to be reversed and some not, unless some are mis-wired.

To troubleshoot, unplug everything from every phone jack in the house. Now plug the Vonage unit into a jack. Does the phone light still start flashing?

yes, all the phones have been disconnected and I power cycled Vonage device and then connected it back to the wall jack. No improvement.

the easiest way to troubleshoot is to open up all the jacks to make sure that they have the same colored wire going to each connection. So if you have the older Cat3, make sure the red is going to the same color terminal and the green, yellow, and green etc. If you have the new cat5, then I think it is solid blue and blue with white stripes etc. Just make sure all the jacks have the exact same wiring sequence through all its terminals.
