account has also been closed. After you port out your number make sure to call Vonage to have the account closed or you'll be in for a surprise in your next billing cycle.
Note: Only speaking to a live agent is the only way to cancel your account. Emails and assuming porting out the number to another phone company will not close your account. |

How long did it take Vonage to port your Vonage number to the new carrier? I have been waiting 7 days, and that seem a little long! |

Vonage has nothing to do with port outs at all. Your question should be "How long did it take your new carrier to port your Vonage number to them?". Vonage does not own the numbers, they lease them from a CLEC, they are the ones that release the number to your new carrier. It is done as soon as your new carrier submits the correct paperwork. And no, 7 days is no where near a long time when it comes to number transfers. The average is somewhere around 3 weeks. |

why do we have to call in and cancel the account even if the port out has been completed already? i mean technically Vonage has no longer have the number, why would the account remain active? |

The best reason I can come up with it that people use Vonage for their international and long distance service. You can transfer your number out, and keep the number with Vonage using it for outgoing long distance/international only. This would make your number show up on both your local and long distance calls Caller ID, and is sometimes still cheaper than using a competitors intl/long distance service. Other than that, it is just the way Vonage operates and something that most people know now anyway. |

so that would mean even if the number is already with another phone provider i can still make calls using the line as long as the adapter is plugged? how about for incoming calls? where will it ring?
good thing though we have this forum or else people wouldnt be aware that they need to call in to cancel the account themselves. i guess thats how Voip service works |

Yes, even though the number is with another provider you can use the phone plugged into the Vonage adapter until you call and cancel your Vonage service. Incoming calls from non-Vonage users will go to the carrier that your number is currently with(ie. not your Vonage line). Incoming calls from Vonage users will go to your Vonage phone, as the number will still be in Vonage's database until they remove it upon termination of your account or change of your number with them. |

So after 30 minutes on a three-way call with Vonage and AT&T, no one could tell me anything about Vonage releasing my number so AT&T can pick up the number. Who is this CLEC group? Vonage said they have never heard of them. They said the get their numbers from a group called VAVORS. Of course they did not have a phone number for that group. I have had this number 19 years, and WILL NOT LOSE it due to Vonage. I had it ported to Vonage 2.5 years ago and now I want to have it released so I can have it ported to someone else and good old Vonage will not help me. I will bad mouth them as long as I live! |

It helps if you ask for a ticket or case number when you called too. You will have proof in the future. This might be able to help you. |
