Hi all,
A friend of mine recently got Vonage, and I am trying to set it up for him.
One thing we are having major, major problems with, is setting up his home web server to be accessible from the Internet. While he was not on Vonage, he was able to have it on, and now it's not working anymore.
I think we've tried anything and everything to configure port forwarding correctly on VT2442. We tried the built-in web server rule, Custom Port Forwarding, User defined rule, different ports.
We've used the excellent guides at portforward.com, but it didn't work. He even called Vonage help desk a couple of times, and could not make it to work.
Here's his technical setup: The Internet connection is Bell Sympatico DSL. Connected to that is the Motorola VT2442 router/firewall he got from Vonage (he used to have a NetGear router/firewall). To that firewall he has 3 computers connected, one is the web server in question.
All the computers show up nicely in VT2442 screens. He has Internet connection without issues. The only problem is web server.
The computer with the web server has a static IP address within the internal network (behind the firewall). The web server works and is accessible from the other computers on the internal network. There are no DHCP lease clashes with other computers. So, web server is working.
He is using a dyndns.org client to update his dynamic ip address for his Internet users. That is working too, we checked the change in IP address when we powered down the router.
Port 80 is not blocked by anyone, as he was able to have the web server exposed while he had NetGear connected. We've thought that might be the problem, so we moved the web server to a couple of other, random ports, and it didn't work.
I see a lot of questions on VT2442 and port forwarding on Vonage Forums, but few step-by-step answers. Is there maybe a well written guide/tutorial/how-to on how to set VT2442 and Vonage and host a Web server with it? Can anyone help me with this?

I tried for a long time to get an FTP server running with my setup. But the VT2442 always gave me problems. The port forwarding is horrible as it gets reset on each boot. |
