My Vonage is usually very solid and I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting. I took my box to our beach house in Florida and it worked beautifully for the week. Just got home yesterday and plugged everything back in and folks have been complaining of not being able to hear me since yesterday. Don't know if there's something going on with my Comcast signal or if I've messed up my setup (although it seems like I wouldn't be able to call/receive calls at all if that was the case) or if there's a Vonage issue.

Figured I'd start here first!

Thanks,
Laurel

I'm in the 615 area code and have had no issues receiving or calling locally. Comcast has also been very solid for me, no issues whatsoever in over a year. It could be something as simple as your connections are crossed...i.e. your cable modems power plug is plugged into your Vonage adapter and vice versa. Double check your connections.

thanks, Darrell. I don't have a clue what's going on. I have had no problems hearing folks, but they say, quote, I'm breaking up. We have had some problems with our comcast connection as of late. I will have to give them a call, I guess, because this is not resolving and I've reset the modems so many times and swapped cables all over the place wtihout any luck!

If you've been having issues with Comcast lately, definitely start there. Disconnect everything (router if applicable and your Vonage adapter) and connect your cable modem by ethernet directly to your computer. Go to testyourvoip.com and choose "Boston" as your destination and post back your results.

What model cable modem do you have, do you know how to check your cable modem signal levels?

Darrell:

We have a newer Surfboard modem -- 5120. I called Comcast on my way to Columbia yesterday and told them we were still having problems. We were also having breakup on digital TV. don't know what they did, but I called home from the car when I was coming back and talked to my daughter and it was fine. Got a call from our friends in Florida who also have Vonage and talked for quite a while without a problem. So it seems whatever was going on is fixed. We're having a LOT of growth in our area (brentwood east of Concord Road) and I think just the continued increase in volume and traffic is causing some growing pains.

it was funny -- the dude from Comcast was trying to talk me into Comcast Voip. A, I reminded him their $33 rate was just for the first 12 months and B, I asked him if I could take it to the beach (no, you can't). That stopped the sales pitch pretty fast! Smile

Laurel, glad to hear the good news. When your digital cable signal starts breaking up, that's a good inicator that your going to have isues with your HSI and thus an issue with your Vonage service...the two go hand-in-hand.

I agree with you, dollar for dollar Voanage's service and features and free calls to Europe with the unlimited plan are superior to what Comcast offers. That deal for $33/month for the first 12 months might work if one was still using BellSouth but it's a no-brainer if you already have Vonage. My only gripe with Comcast is that their services are so overpriced...I wish we had Verizon's Fios internet service available in our area, we would definitely see cheaper rates than $52.95/month for HSI.

Have a great day!
