BEFSR41 v.2 w/ Firmware Version 1.46.02 frequently locks up during phone calls. When this happens you can't even access the router setup page, even though the activity led's look normal. Usually, if you wait a few minutes, it starts working. If you power cycle the router, it works immediately. It never locks up when browsing the internet, downloading, streaming, etc. Today it must have been out at some time because three calls went directly to voicemail, no ring or anything. I have the vt1005v behind the router with a static ip and port forwarding enabled on the Linksys. (Used to have it in front, but got tired of rebooting the thing. At least the router reboots instantly.) I'm on comcast, 3 Mb down, 256 Kb up. |

Is the 1005V in a DMZ? Are you forwarding all ports required? Try it for a few hours with nothing but the 1005V behind your cable modem (yes, just 1 PC 'net connected) to see if that helps.
Could be a flakey connection. Also, what kinds of apps are you running that are 'net connected? I had a phenominal amount of trouble running bittorrent with the 1005V, btw.

That router is notoriously flaky.
Mine wouldn't lock up entirely, but it would "lose" internet connectivity for 30 seconds every now and then. I never noticed it until I hooked up Vonage.
Now I'm using a BEFSR81 v.3 (Cisco) because I'm obviously a glutton for pain -- no, actually because there really aren't many 8 port hard wired routers available and I knew at least with this one I'd be familiar with the basic setup options.
I haven't had any problems since.
Maybe you could try "downgrading" the firmware. DSLReports.com would be the best place to try and find an older version.
From what I read here: http://peterkaminski.com/archives/000349.html 1.44.2z may work better for you. |
