I realize that a simular post has been made concerning this a while back, but this is different. I didn't want to resurrect an old post in the archive from 2003.

Anyway, due to performance problems with my Vonage device (ie, dropped calls, staticy calls for the receiving party), I was forced to have it be directly hooked up to my cable modem and my router (DI-524 with the latest firmware) hooked up to Vonage.

My problem:
I am having NAT (for Azureus) and TCP/UDP issues for eMule. eMule works... but I can't get green connections anymore. Azureus sort of works but I don't know... I can't get my NAT to go green, it says it is firewalled.

With the DI-524 hooked directly up to the modem and Vonage to the router, I seed about 15-20kbs up and I have my Vonage device set to the lowest setting. Even with 10kbs up, there is still problems.

I don't know what to do now. Is there a way to get into the Vonage device and configure it for certain port ranges? I am lost. Can anyone help??? I would like to get by with my DI-524 as much as possible because it has been reliable. Thanks in advance!

what Vonage device do you have? You never gave us that info.

Also the reason why you were having issues is b/c you are running bandwidth intensive applications and have a router (DI-524) that does not prioritize the traffic to favor your phone conversations. As a result, your real-time internet traffic for your phone was not always allowed to go first, hence resulting in choppy audio etc.

Depending on the Vonage device, you should be able to get some help. The real problem is that most of the Vonage devices are only designed for normal internet traffic not intensive ones. so most people here will suggest that you get a better router that can handle the traffic and also have QoS. Many have recommended the wrt54g with aftermarket firmware.

I know the Di-524 does not have QoS and so that's why I have it behind my rt31p2 not in front.

If you go here, you can download the users guide for your device:

If you go to page 13 on your user's guide, you will see the instructions on connecting to the web configuration.

Connect a computer directly to the motorola router and type in 192.168.15.1 in your internet explorer or whatever web browser you use.

type in

username: router
password: router

I have read in earlier posts that people were having issues with port forwarding on this particular model so be forewarned that it might not work.

You will then want to go to page 27 in the users guide but again I have read posts that it does not work as advertized.

do a search on the forum and maybe someone has found a work around solution.

Hmm... the IP doesn't work. I am trying to look through the manual now. I would like to avoid upgrading to another router at this point.

one of 2 things is happening.

1. you are not connected directly to your motorola LAN port (i.e. computer NIC ethernet to LAN port 1 of your motorola) Turn everything off and turn it back on first the motorola and then your computer. Make sure that the motorola is not connected to anything else like the modem or the DLink DI-524

or

2. you have changed the ip address of your motorola device.
