I am curious as to why we are still hearing about this even though it is not a Vonage induced problem at all.

Non Vonage induced is debatable I never had a problem with my servers connectivity for the 5 years before I had Vonage now all of a sudden I do. I have gone through 3 firmwares to this point to correct the issue. chances are it is a firmware issue brought on by the use ov the Vonage adaptor. thank you for not replying with a useful comment!

The server has stayed on line over night and the Vonage is still working so hopefully I found the firmware that will sove the issue. I am also thinking of changing the NIC out in the server witha newer model maybe the old 3com in their is being flooded with traffic or something who knows at this point. I am also using wire shark to sniff the traffic on my network to see if there is anything amiss this far all seems to be normal. granted my home network has alot more going on than average networks but it should be well within the ability of all my equipment. 1 server 7 workstations one network printer one wireless access point one wireless range extender a linksys 24 port 10/100 rack mount switch wrt54g ver 2.2 router dlink Vonage adapor and dsl modem. granted my equipment is far from top of the line but above the norm for a home install I would think.....

Glad to hear things are more stable for you. I may not have mentioned it, but I also have a little writeup on QoS you may find useful - see my "self help" guides below. It can help set some expectations on QoS and what it can and cannot do for you.

As an aside, I've been using a relatively new firmware called "Tomato" that has some really, really nifty built-in QoS reporting tools. The firmware is compatible with your WRT54G v2.2, and might give you faster and more accurate data than an external connection reporting application.

Tomato is available here: http://www.polarcloud.com/tomato
There's a Wikibooks manual here: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Tomato_Firmware

As to the comment about a "non-Vonage induced" issue - ignore it. Most of the posts in this forum (though certainly not all!) turn out to be "non-Vonage induced", but fixing the issues fixes the Vonage-related problems. And that is what the forum is here for. Smile

After all, I can't help you if your problems are Vonage-induced. I can only tell you to call Vonage. So this forum is about issues with your network that CAUSE Vonage problems, or diagnosing problems with Vonage that may be harming your network (and with the "quality" of routers that Vonage integrates into their adapters, we certainly discuss enough of that.... LOL)

yeah I have been researching firmware for the router quite a bit over the past couple weeks. I did come across the tomato firmware and I was thinking of trying it out but I was leary as I figured with so many options it could possibly slow the router a bit as these things are not exactly power houses. I will try that one if this firmware does not cure the issue. On a good note the Vonage has been working great no sound issues etc I did have issues when I first got the Vonage but I called them up had them change my packet size and they downgraded the Vonage box to an older firmware and it has been great ever since well accept for my server crapping out. The whole situation has had me frustrated beyond never had an issue where one thing would go down and not everything go down with a router before. But hey guess it keeps you learning. Thanks for all your assistance guys.
As for iskyfly get a life you internet turd if your not part of the solution your part of the problem!

Actually, it's quite the opposite. In addition to adding features, the author of Tomato has also optimized the processing engine quite a lot, upgraded the Linux kernel and many of the tools used to more recent and efficient versions, and generally tweaked the heck out of the router.

The latest (Thibor) HyperWRT is also quite efficient, though not quite as fast as Tomato in my testing on my WRT54G V4 - your mileage may vary, of course, but HyperWRT and Tomato are both free (except for any voluntary donation you may wish to send along, of course), and stock firmware is always a simple firmware flash away. Wink

ok well my server is down yet again. I am at a loss. I am going to pull the nic as I am thinking maybe it is not the router as my Vonage is still working fine I just cannot connect to the server
