Post subject: New Vonage user with Fios needs help with terrible sound
I just received my
Vonage
adapter today (d-link VTA). I have FIOS here and I have a Belkin wireless router. I have the
Vonage
adapter plugged in to my router along with my other pc. I ran the speed test and here's what I got:
d/l speed: 1.53
u/l speed: 1.94
QOS: 75%
jitter: 3.9 ms
packet loss: 63%
Now I don't know exactly what each of these means, but when I try to make a call out, I am getting extremely choppy sound. Can anyone give me some advice on what I might be able to do to improve the quality of sound? I really don't want to go back to Verizon for phone service. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hook the computer right to the modem. Rerun
Voip
test and copy/paste the results from view as text hyperlink on the advanced button. I'm not familiar with FIOS components but packet loss is generally faulty hardware somewhere in the line to the ISP. Taking your router out will confirm it's not your router. From there you could run tracert and pingplotter to help find the problem. But if it's not your router you will probably need to call Verizon for a service call. I believe they can see packet loss from there office.
