Inbound (what displays on your phone when someone calls you):

Yes, Vonage offers CallerID with name, and it works fine.


Outbound (what displays on other people's phones when you call them):

No. The name will be "Vonage Holdings", "Unknown", blank, or some other value depending on which outbound Voip gateway Vonage chooses for you on the outbound call. Your Vonage telephone number should appear, but the name will not.

Its not your Vonage outbound caller id is working.......Right now Vonage doesnt support Outbound Caller ID feature

Here's how Caller Name works in the U.S.of.A.:

Each carrier enters your name into one or more of many competing commercial databases.

Each carrier decides which of these databases to subscribe to for looking up incoming calls.

When a call comes in, the CALLED party's carrier looks the number up in the database that carrier subscribes to and displays when they get.

So, for example, when I get a call from one of my clients in Houston, Verizon in Massachusetts displays simply "TEXAS". However, if the Verizon line is busy, the call Busy-Transfers over to Vonage, and Vonage looks the number up in a different database and gets the actual name of the company.

There are some interesting exceptions, however, in the Voip world. If I get a call on Vonage from another Voip provider who happens to send the call to one of the same backbone providers (such as Level 3) that Vonage uses, and the backbone provider hands the call directly to Vonage without traversing the PSTN, what Vonage will display for the CNAME will be exactly what the caller supplies in his device.

Similarly, a Vonage-to-Vonage call will use whatever is put into the device. Now the only Vonage device that I have which lets me set the name is my Softphone; my Cisco ATA-186 is locked and I can't set the parameters. I suspect that's true of most Vonage ATAs.

Unfortunately, Vonage does not populate any of the CNAME databases. However, you can register with http://www.listyourself.net/ and get into some of those databases; whether the people you are calling will see it will depend on who they check.
