I have the IP811 phone for Vonage. One of the handset chargers is not functioning. I called VTech to see if they sold handset chargers and they referred me to Vonage. I called Vonage and they suggested I go to where I bought the unit. BestBuy doesn't have the charger either. The phones are no longer under warranty and I am willing to pay for a handset charger.

Why do they make it so difficult to get replacement parts? I don't need a new phone, just a charger. I can't find one anywhere! I think it is a ripoff that both VTech and Vonage are giving me the run around. Evil or Very Mad

Anybody else have experience with this? Question

That's a bad scene all right. The availability of chargers and power adapters- especially at reasonable cost- for electronic equipment in general is a real problem.

You might want to drop Vonage an email using the forum contact page- menu, top left, Vonage information/contact support. We're told that gets special attention.

One of my IP811 chargers quit after only a few days. After realizing that it's hard to get parts, I investigated the problem and found that it was the transformer, not the actual electronics in the base. So I just got my soldering iron out and replaced the transformer with one I had from some other device I'd thrown out - works fine....

Here is the response I got from Voange...it's crap. I have to pop for a new phone to replace a handset charger. That renders a perfectly good phone useless.

Like I say, check the output on the transformer - it's not a big deal to replace the tranny. In fact if it is the transformer and you don't have a soldering iron, then you could just cut off the cord and make a joint to any old 9Vdc plug-in transformer - just make sure you get the polarity right...i think the charger only needs 150mA.

It's the gizmo you plug into the 110v AC wall outlet - that's the transformer that takes the 110v AC mains down to 9Vdc to feed the charger circuit. if your problem is like mine, the actual charger unit where the phone sits was just fine, it just wasn't getting any power from the transformer...
