Ive had Vonage for about 8 months. I have optimum online out of NY. Ive passed the Voip test with flying colors. I use the rtp300-vd as my router and Voip device. The problem is that If the power blinks or goes out in my house, I will not be able to make outgoing calls (call goes through but I hear nothing on the line, person hears me fine) and if someone calls me they go straight to the Vonage voice mail. If I reset the power to the router it all works fine again. But this isnt found out until I go to make a call or someone calls my cell to tell me that they have been trying to get through all day. The internet part works fine all the time. My router came in a white box, which to me means refurb (it was free). Does this sound familiar to anyone? Should I try and return it for a new one? Anything to try?

Ok, I just found this thread with what sounds like my problem.

http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic18679.html

The problem is that the thread got locked because of some behavioral problems before anything could come of it. Yikes!

Well, I went and did the "band aid" fix. I bought a UPS for the cable modem and Vonage router. That was good to do anyway so I could have phone if the lights go out. My fax machine doesnt need power for the phone part to work so Im covered there. I also discovered that I can create this problem any time I want by disconnecting the power and putting it back. It seems to occur every other power cycle. Very strange.

Every other power cycle? That is weird. Does it happen only if you "blink" the power, or does it happen even if you keep the power off for several seconds before reconnecting it? What if the computer is off line when this happens?

My questions are mainly curiosity. Your UPS fix is the right one, IMHO.

It happens even when its off for a few seconds. Thats how I found this out. I unplugged the router to plug it to the UPS. When I plugged it back in the problem was there again. So I pulled the plug again for a few seconds, replugged and all was well again. Weird, huh.

Indeed it is. And what happens if the computer is off during all this?

Same results if the computer is off. In fact it was off when I was switching all the plugs to the UPS. I didnt physically pull all the ethernet cables from the router but all the lan computers were off when I tested it out. I actually had this problem very early on in my Vonage adventure. I called the tech support, they said they did something to my router and told me to reboot it. It worked fine after that until the next time the power flickered. So, I would guess that they didnt fix the problem, the resetting did. Since this router was free and in a white box, do you think it might have been a refurb? And that Ive inherited someone else's old problem?

I don't know about an old problem, but I think you're right about it being a re-furb. Vonage stopped supplying the RTP300s for awhile and gave out the VT2442 instead. I suspect that when they resumed delivery of RTP300s it was with re-furbs.
