Agreed. As much as I want to support Voip companies, my 'Vonage' experience in general has been disappointment after disappointment. I couldn't believe that I spent $49.99 at FutureShop for a USB V-Phone when I was travelling, got it back to where I was staying and it didn't work. It's such a SIMPLE concept! I thought maybe there were issues with the machine I was using so I tried it again (including work-around for Vista) and it still didn't work. Now it just launches, detects the Vonage V-Phone and then disappears.

This is pathetic, Vonage. Is there no QA anymore? Didn't anyone try this on Vista before you shipped it?

I threw away the vphone packaging because i needed to fit the device into a briefcase. Little did I know or was I informed that the packaging has the oh-so-important MAC ID printed on it. Went crazy trying to extract the MAC ID from the drive name (as the Vonage website says it should also appear there). Regardless, i insert the vphone and nothing happens except that Vista installs a removable disk with a random drive letter (f, g, etc.). I double-click autodown.exe after making all the changes indicated on the Vonage website for vista. It literally takes over an hour for the Vonage software to startup...if it starts up at all. The blue light flashes like crazy. Technical support hotline is USELESS. What a waste of time and energy...utter nightmare.

What I discovered was that the compatibility mode was not being saved. When I went back and changed the settings it came up and works really well.

I have been using Voip for a long time and this is a nice easy package to carry around. I managed to damage my expensive headset but this is a simple package.

I too had some massive problems getting the V-Phone to work with Vista. I tried many of the official workarounds and they all failed.

In the end, here are a few highlights of my "fix":

- Don't plug the V-Phone into an external USB hub.
- Uninstall your ISO mounting software.
- Run the "usb-update-2007-01-22-000001.exe" file.
- Make sure the correct USB driver is loaded.
- Don't use the V-Phone microphone.

My blog post contains a few more details:

Hopefully some of this might help someone else.
