I just bought a VT1005 from a Target store and set up an account on Vonage.com.

I attempted to connect the VT1005 to my network router which is a Linksys WRT54G. I expected this device to simply show up in my DHCP table and be accessible from my network. It did not. I then tried to connect my PC to the PC connection via the supplied network cable. According to the supplied documentation, I should be able to access the config via http at 192.168.102.1. However, the network connection wouldn't even succeed. It would hang when attempting to acquire a network address from the VT1005. I've googled this issue to death but all I can find are issues people have had AFTER being able to configure the device (configuring network/port pinholes, etc).

I should note that my intention is to connect the VT1005 behind my wifi router, using the Non-prioritized configuration. This is neither here nor there considering I can't even get the device to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You seem to be doing all the right things. Assuming that you're booting the WRT54G first, and then the VT1005, you should be able to see the VT in the DHCP table. Also assuming that your computer is set up for DHCP, then plugging it into the VT PC jack and re-booting should get you access to the admin page. Since it doesn't, you may have a defective unit. By the way, I assume that the phone isn't working. Is that correct?

You might want to try disconnecting the VT from your system. Just plug a PC into the VT PC port again, re-boot the VT, then the PC. See if you can get access to the VT admin page that way. If not, the default settings on the VT may somehow have gotten changed. That can be a problem, since the VT has no reset button. You could try setting the PC up with a static address in the normal range for the VT's LAN- 192.168.102.2 for example. Re-boot and try again. If you still can't get to the admin page, then I'd conclude that you need to exchange the unit.

When trying to access your VT1005 192.168.102.1 did you set up the correct gateway and subnet on the computer's network connection? Connecting the ATA directly to a PC and simply entering the ATA's address usually doesn't work. I'm assuming there is a reset option in the configuration menu once you get that far, which you could try. Or at least, as has already been suggested, you could then set up the Vonage ATA with a static IP.
