I started using Vonage late last fall...and had been very happy... until last month or so -- quality of service has become horrible -- either unable to understand garbled calls or issues with people (from various area codes) trying to call me and only hearing busy tone or message that number incorrect - please try again?@?@#? I even have gotten this message calling home.

Today I've hit rock bottom -- I have not been able to complete a single call without someone complaining about garble... I finally have resorted to my CELL phone for better quality. What's up at Vonage!!!

I have excellent connection speeds and have checked for packet loss/speed/etc issue when problem going on -- not a internet connection issue.

1. Your location - BATON ROUGE, LA
2. Your ISP - CABLE w/COX PREMIER
3. Upload and download speeds - Upload @ ~1.0Mb/sec; Download @ min of 4.0-5.0Mb/sec (night/heavy traffic online) and up to 8.0Mb+/sec other times.
4. Modem - Motorola SB5120
5. Vonage adapter - Linksys PAP2 Ver 2
6. Network - Phone direct to adapter to Linksys Router to Modem
7. Issue CHOPPY CALLS; no dial tone; incoming calls indicating that incorrect number - please dial again or busy tone.
8. Voip test results -

results are pretti impressive! do you have qos settings on your router?is the spi firewall disabled?try connecting the adapter directly to modem, reboot both of them and check the audio quality.

QoS set up on router to give ethernet priority to Vonage Adapter. Firewall not disabled, etc.

I've narrowed down issues some -- calls seem to be better to some areas and worse to other?

Also this morning I lost phones - had to reset the adapter get dial tone back... haven't had that happen too often.

Tell you what -- if Vonage is going to be this much trouble... my household is starting to lean back toward alternatives... line Ma Bell.

I have also been having issues with choppy audio/static all week. I just got off the phone with tech support and they advised that they are aware of the problem and are still working to correct it. Not effected all users so may not be a priority to them. It will become a priority when we all drop our service. I have already heard from 2 people that are feed up and are going back over to ma bell. I have been with Vonage since it started and we have seen ups and downs. This is by far the worst, I have been unable to use the phone at all because the quality is so bad no one can here me. If they can't correct this problem soon I may even have to drop them and go over to cable phone.

LAMudbug, what happens if you plug the PAP2 directly into your modem?

Your downlink packet losses are ungodly. Please re-run the test. If you get similar results, plug your computer directly into your modem and see what results you get.

The recent call chop problems I've been experiencing lately, (after NO issues since I first signed up back in Oct '06) are getting WORSE, not better. I don't think this is an ISP issue . . . I think this is a Vonage issue.
