My parents are a little "techno-challenged", and really miss their old answering machine which displayed a red number of how many messages they would ignore, err- I mean anxiously check. So I came up with this…
Basically you build this kit… http://www.vellemanusa.com/us/enu/product/view/?id=522041 Which get’s connected to the serial port of your computer running this software… http://www.jpelectron.com/readme/pop3led.asp (free) You tell the software to only count messages with the subject line “new voicemail message” and thereby update the LED display with the number of messages you have waiting. …oh bliss, just like the good old answering machine!!!
So, this bright red LED display prompts them to pick up the phone, dial *123, and check their voicemail. They still pretend they are standing by the answering machine when they do this. Occasionally they even ask why the dial-tone “is pulsing” and you remind them “it’s because you have new voicemail”
Shortly afterwards, they go to the computer and check their email (filled with the spam of Neiman Marcus, Fabulous Vacation this, and Enlarge that, and “new voicemail message” from Vonage), because the computer has now checked these messages and removed them from the server, when pop3led checks the mailbox again in a few minutes, the LED display will be updated with 0. |

All of those ideas sound great if you want to carry your laptop or desktop around with you all the time. I nice when you have just a little wireless phone sitting that can tell you if you have messages or not. Don't get me wrong, I am new to Vonage and happy so far, but must have been spoiled with lingo. Maybe I should have done my homework a little bit better. Vonage has the CID that I need to work with my homeseer program, Lingo seems not to work with it. Lingo has all of the CID products, Just didn't work with my Voice mail on the HomeSeer. I am sure that Vonage will ge adding more and more. I was just a shock to find out that they had less features, but yet also different ones. I was just looking at all the different features that they had, not the ones that they didn't have. But I will work with it as long as the CID keeps working with what I need. I was with lingo for 5 to 6 years and hope to be with Vonage even more. Its really not a lot of fun waiting on your number to be transfer. |

when you say wireless do you mean cordless phone?
My cordless phone has a voice mail indicator on the base, so when I come home if the light is flashing I have voicemail. You can also turn the phone on and have the stutter indicator tell you that you have mail.
You are correct, Lingo does have some great features, maybe Vonage will get some of them soon. |

That was what I was talking about is the lite on the phone that flashes when you have messages. Mine doesn't seem to be flashing. I would love to see Vonage get some of the lingo features and it would be the perfect company. I love the sound of Vonage and did with Lingos also. It was just a problem with the CID of lingo or I would have never switched. Vonage seems to be a bigger company so you would think they have the same and more. Vonage has a lot of things that Lingo doesn't, but they are things that I would never use. Daniel |

Vonage does have the voice mail waiting indicator. My caller id unit stopped flashing when a new voice mail came in. I bought a new cordless thinking it was that and the cordless did not work. I called tech support and they gave me the run around. I told them it worked before. I asked for a supervisor and he got it working for me. He since I changed devices the new device needed something pushed through. Anyway, its working so they do have it. |
